Sophomore Transfer to Cornell AEM or Wharton Chances?

Hi there,

I'm a freshman right now at a pretty highly ranked ranked school, Notre Dame, and I'm not too comfortable with the religious environment here and would like to transfer to either Cornell AEM or Wharton (tough, I know) for next year and was wondering what my odds of getting into either look like. My prospective concentration is entrepreneurship.

If it matters, I applied ED to Wharton originally and was rejected (although I retook the SAT afterwards and scored 100pts higher), and applied RD to Cornell AEM and was also rejected.

Here are my high school/misc stats:

White male from upstate NY

SAT: 2270 superscore- 800 CR; 760 M; 710W

GPA: 3.96 unweighted

Courseload: AP US (5), AP World (5), AP Lit (4), AP Stat (5), AP Euro Hist (5, self-studied)

AP Calc BC (3), AB subscore (4)

Also received the IB Diploma and took 6 IB courses. My exam grades for IB sucked so I won't even include them on the app

High School EC's (I'll just list the top 2):

Run my own eBay business, Power Seller and Top rated seller. Reason behind my major of entrepreneurship, may include it in the application essay

Masterminds (Trivia competition)- won state championship one year, was team captain

College so far

Took both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics at a local public university over the summer and received A's in both.

Taking:

Philosophy- predicted A-/B+
Calc 1 (did not get credit with a 4 in AB)- predicted A
Theology- predicted B
Psychology- predicted A
Astronomy- predicted A

Predicted GPA- 3.6 to 3.8

Not sure what I'm taking next semester

College EC's:

Quiz Bowl
Polish Club
I might join some entrepreneurship/business club to look good on the app.

Thanks for reading and let me know what my odds are and what I could do to improve them!

I think you have a very good chance at Cornell if you keep around a 3.7+. Since you are a sophomore transfer, they will still count your SATs and high school grades, which I think were good. Just show them that you’ve kept up the work at Notre Dame.

OMG! I’m an intended entrepreneurship major at ND as well! I’m also planning to double major in industrial design. I’ve also been looking at transfer programmes these few days!

What dorm are you in? We should meet up or something, just cuz this is such a coincidence…

^Alumni, you? Pretty interesting, i’ve never met another entrepreneurship major here lol

I’m in Ryan. Neither have I! Well, not any freshmen with that intended major anyways… it sucks I cannot PM people cuz i havent made 15 posts yet

Sounds like the Notre Dame name isn’t good enough for you. Understandable, as Cornell and Penn have far greater recognition up north. I should know. The problem is Cornell is very hard to transfer into, and Penn almost impossible. Even though Penn’s overall transfer acceptance rate is about 9%, Wharton’s should be quite lower. Maybe 5% or something.

Come back after your first semester grades are finalized. The difference between a 3.5 and a 3.7 is immense when applying for transfer.

It’s not the name. I don’t know where you got that idea from.
It’s mostly because of the atmosphere here. ND is unique. It attracts an unique student population that is much different from other top 20s but it’s not for everyone for the same exact reason

Oh. Alright. If the environment were so important, then you would be considering lower-ranked schools as well. But then you might say the environment you are looking for is in the Ivy League, so who knows. Maybe I’m just assuming you got into other schools which were a much better fit for you, but decided to go into Notre Dame because of it’s prestige.

@Sometransfer, if you cannot be supportive and are only here to be judgmental, please leave your opinions to yourself. I don’t need to stick up for ND2016, because I don’t even know who he or she even is. Though, the purpose of these forums is not to attack people because they want to transfer.

@ND2016, I can understand your concerns. I’m not here to judge you on your past decision. As a former transfer student (two times around), finding that right social and academic fit are vital to your success at a university.

Are you considering any other schools with top business programs that have a specialization in Entrepreneurship? I’m a bit worried if you’re only considering highly selective programs. You should have a few safety and reach schools (on top of these higher reach schools), if you feel that ND is not the right fit for you. Have you considered Babson College? They’re #1 for entrepreneurship. Other top programs you should look into are USC and Syracuse.

Your high school credentials are highly competitive, but most transfer students at Cornell and Penn have similar credentials. Your leadership and involvement is lacking compared to others (I can guarantee that).

Feel free to send me a private PM! It really depends what matters to you most about your college experience. I can see that you are not cut out for a school that is religiously affiliated. So you can rule out Georgetown and Brigham Young.

those stats are the OPs, not mine lol

um for me, if I stayed at ND, im gonna double major in Entrepreneurship and Industrial Design so I’m not just looking at Entrepreneurship programmes.

@l00king2transfer

Are you in E-society?

ND2016- Consider Carnegie Mellon

@ND2016- not now, but I’ll probably join after fall break. are you?

Yeah I’m in the Incubator group of E-society. Btw, a lot of other schools, like MIT, Columbia, Brown and stuff have entrepreneur courses or majors, too, if you wanna look into those
