Sophomore Transfer

I was thinking about transferring as a sophomore to USC. I know that if you have less than 30 units they look at your SAT scores. If I will have 22 units done by the fall and more than 30 units in the spring will they still base my app on my SAT score? Also, I know they want you to have section 1,2,3,&5 done for the app, but I'll have one, possibly two sections done. Will that hurt me when applying? Will I not be able to apply? The classes I have taken are mostly covering my GE classes that I need to complete.

Hi dmom12,

I was accepted to USC as a sophomore. Don’t worry. The admissions process for transfers isn’t nearly as competitive as it is for high school students. As long as you get above a 3.6 and complete the requirements for your program, you will be admitted. When they say 30 units, they mean by the end of your spring semester. You don’t need to do the general education sections to be admitted but it’ll definitely get you out of taking some classes here. I don’t think that not taking them will hurt you when you’re applying because I have met several transfers who have to do all of the general education sections here. Just follow the requirements on this website <a href=“USC:Transfer Planning Guide”>USC:Transfer Planning Guide; and you’ll be set. Good luck!

Were you offered the “Trojan Transfer Plan” (TTP) after you applied to USC as a freshman from high school? My understanding is that USC does not accept sophomore transfers unless you were offered the TTP. TTP is offered to borderline applicants who were denied admission to USC as freshmen. Because USC has limited spaces for the vast number of applicant and sees great potential in these applicants, they are offered the TTP to transfer to USC from any college. They must have high performances, say 3.7+ GPA, to be able to transfer to USC as a sophomore.

Yes, I was offered the TTP. I have met several sophomore transfers who were not on the TTP. But most of these transfers had a 3.4+ at their previous college.

thanks

Airupthere95:
Thank you!! I emailed admissions and they said 30 units by the time you send in your application, but I’ll have 22 by the time I send in my app. By spring semester I’ll have 40 something. Did they ask for your spring grades?

Back in 2008, our D applied after completing just one semester of CC–15-18 credits. She had to also submit her spring grades and was accepted as a spring transfer upon completion of 3 semesters of CC. She transferred to USC and got a degree in SCA. She was not on the Trojan Transfer Plan.
