If our EFC is same as last year, how likely is it that NYU with give D at least as much financial aid next year as this year? She is at Tisch in Drama and had a 3.5 GPA first semester. Is it possible to get more? Merit?

My daughter is a junior and she has received the same amount every year, even with our EFC fluctuating downward of about 3000.00 dollars in her junior year.

My thought is once NYU has “gotten” you in the door, even a major financial change of circumstances probably will not result in more “free” money. The most would be more loans. :(

I believe the merit money is largely awarded for incoming freshmen as an enticement to students who may be considering other top schools. That is my sense of how NYU works in regards to financial aid and awards.

We did appeal in Sophomore year, but she did not receive any more aid, partly I think because her grades were ok, not great the first year. I suspect if your daughter’s grades are good and/or she is on the dean’s list, she might get more aid. I have seen that happen with another student whose mom is a regular CCer.

milkandsugar, That is good to know. That someone actually got more $. I suspected as much; it has to be top performing students and who knows how much the actual amount is? Sorry, I have heard too many stories of NYU’s not so generous financial aid.

Our family finances have taken a turn for the worse. And I will have to request additional aid. I am not too hopeful, given that sonny already has a generous scholarship, by NYU standards. :(
