Do APEX help with college admissions? What about AoPS courses?

True.... but seriously what is Apex? How does it help?

I am a Junior. I believe APEX is a program in which students can apply to and take courses through. I want to know if APEX and AoPS will help in college admissions. Does anyone know?

I've been trying to decide between music, research, and the ssp program for awhile and I think I'm probably going to do research. I want to take some courses online as well.

Apex learning: www.apexlearning.com It offers several classes, including AP, which is really good for me because my school only offers AP Literature. It probably only helps in college admissions to get more AP courses on your transcript, plus it shows that you have some initiative to take classes outside of your regular school. Don't know what AoPS is...

AoPS is Art of problem solving which is a math website. I don't think taht AoPS classes would really help on your college transcript. However, I'm sure that if you dedicate yourself during those classes, you can make USAMO or even MOSP and that will definitely help your college app

haha nah. these yearrs. so much competition. gotta start early to whoever said chill, relax, and get wasted haha. we're all gonna go for the best we can. relax after =]. sounds like fun all these places you guys are going haha. i'm in beijing, china. so i'll be heading to LA ^^. probably SAT course, eat good ole' In N' Out, and have some fun (with work of course haha).

Man. It seems like we sophomores are going to be one competitive year. =] let the games begin

Has anyone taken the SAT prep course before? My parents want me to take it, but I'm not sure how much help it really is.

I've heard that UCs sometimes don't accept online courses...do they accept Apex?

Currently I am taking the Princeton Review's SAT Prep Course. Having never taken an SAT prep class before, I find a lot of the methods they teach to be really useful, but the only thing is they assign a LOT of homework..and its hard to fit it into your schedule along with school and ECs.
The PR course is only a month long :( and I found this new place called Share World Learning that has tutoring and College Counseling also, so I am thinking of signing up with them :)

are only PR classes really good compared to self study with SAT PREP books?

i don't know. i've heard kaplan kindof stinks, and ivy review gives you college counseling for a full year along with SAT prep. i guess the only reason PR would be more reputable because if you take their course, they give you a bunch of their stuff like an SAT manual, their 11Real practice tests book, and the tips and tricks to go along with it. our teacher says over and over again that if you're looking to raise your SAT score by those last 100-200 points, a PR course may not be the best thing for you.
have you seen xiggi's SAT prep thread? i think that would be the best way to prep unless you dont have the motivation to go self study.

Kaplan sucks. it's a COMPLETE waste of money and time, i regret taking it. Seriously, just do 10 Real SAts over and over again and you will ace it.

juicy - from which company is the 10 real sats? collegeboard? and is there a new edition?

Academically, I'm doing an internship, going to a music camp, studying for classes next year, completing an AP class, SAT courses, yuck.

And I'm visiting my cousins for a week

Ahaha, bring it.

But yeah, the sophomores are SO competitive this year...me included. It scares me...somewhat, ha.

JSA Summer School then internship with congressman.

Internship with a Congressman? That's so awesome! Did you have special connections or something?

Haha definitely spiffy. Very competitive year. I'm afraid it's even more competitive than this year's "most competitive year ever". In 2 years we'll all be seeing each other in colleges =]

MESSAGE TO ALL: MAKE YOUR SUMMERS COUNT

Whether it be SAT's, Exercise, Music, Jobs

Do whatever you can to make em' count, summer isn't like the 5th grade where you can just chill out in the mall anymore. Those who work hardest in summer get it easier for college.
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL =]
