when transferring to schools am i competeing against only people who will be in my projected graduating class (soph; junior; etc) or will i be compared to all transfer applicants. In otherwords, I am a freshman now hoping to enter as a sophomore, would someone who is going to be a junior be compared to me or are they looking to fill spots in the different graduating classes?

I've wondered this too...good question. Also, you're only competing against those with the same status, is it easier getting in as a sophmore vs junior?
I think more ppl would apply as freshman as usually one knows whether or not they want out.

This was a major concern of mine last year when i transferring. I thought that i would be at a disadvantage as a soph since i had less to show on my app. I can give you the answer for one school (stanford).

They do compete against each other but it is not something to be concerned about. Stanford does not fill spots in the class because so few are accepted it really doesnt make a different, it is just whoever they feel is the most qualified. The end result was about the same number of soph and juniors (maybe a few more sophs)
