As listed above, was deferred EA - Chicago - swimming… But received likely letter as recruited athlete this week. Definitely based on coach support, although good academic credentials, too… No financial aid requested… not sure if that was a factor.

Son being recruited by Colgate coach. 2050 (1490 Mth/verbal), SAT II Math II 740, Physics 800, 3.85 gpa, prospective eagle scout. Coach wants ED II but we applied reg decision. Afraid of binding and enough aid, although coach says edII will bring more aid. Any thoughts?

Is Colgate clearly his #1 choice? Are there seperate colleges within the University that your son has to apply into (that are even more competitive) or it is one applicant pool at Colgate? What is the sport, and how much leverage does he have with the coach…is he a top recruit?

Your son is right around the 75% percentile for applicants based on 2011 SAT numbers. The acceptance rate is 29% based on those same numbers.

The coach is probably right that your son may not have as many merit scholarships available if he goes RD. You know your atheltic and academic situation best so I’d think it through about ED2. Based on what you’ve shared, I don’t think he needs the bump by the coach with Admissions although stranger things have happened. If your son is in any way on the fence about Colgate or any other very competitive school, I would apply RD and roll the dice. With your son’s numbers and coaches support, I think he’d be accepted ED based on what you’ve shared.

^ That’s terrific - and sort of interesting the way it played out. I wonder if coach wanted to see how the EA decision played out w/o support - intending to issue the LL for the RD round if needed

Div 1 Men’s Swimming
Medium sized northeastern selective school
Just got EA acceptance today
Coach was confident to our S that he could get him in, & spot on about the other bells and whistles as well.
