I have collapsing arches that are the source of chronic health issues from my feet all the way up to my shoulders. I was told to pretty much never bother with walking shoes and get running shoes or cross trainers because they provide much better support. That and making sure you are wearing good socks (not ones that are worn really thin) is where I would start. Anything else would depend on where the soreness is. If it gets really bad I would actually recommend seeing a doc, as my condition indicates, feet problems can really screw you up.

Make sure your shoes “fit”. I like to go to a specialized running store to buy my shoes, because previously I had problems with sore feet, shin splints, etc. after running. I would recommend going to such a store, because the folks there will be able to more specifically solve your problem (especially if you are like me and need very specific shoes).

Do you have circulation problems, are you overweight, do you have varicosities visible on your legs? Been checked by an MD for PAD? Peripheral Artery Disease?

I’ve had this same exact problem, and i went to the good feet store. Its expensive as heck (think $600) but you get 3 inserts that do different things. The supports are durable and do last, and once you get used to them, it really helps…
