Sororities and Fraternities at Wake Forest

Looking at applying to wake forest…
However, I’m worried about the amount of students that are involved in greek life. I don’t think greek life is a bad thing, but it seems like the entire university revolves around it and I’m worried I wont fit in unless I join one. I think I may have read on here that Wake Forest is " a black hole for deep thinkers and nonconformists". That really scares me. I would consider myself a noncomformist. Please help… would I be happy here?!?

Have you visited? People are conservative, hard workers and party on the weekend. I wouldnt say nonconformists.

No I have not visited. I probably will if I get accepted. Could you describe your experience visiting there?

Preppy fun good looking kids. Work hard party hard. Very personalized and beautiful. After applying to Duke ED and visiting Wake my DD wished she had applied ED to Wake instead. IDK about the non confirmists? Everyone was pretty conformed!!!

Anyone now about how much the dues for the fraternities are? Are they per semester or annually?

@BMart15 my students dues are about 2000/semester.

For sororities it says on the website: “Average new member dues are $615, with subsequent semesters at an average of $335.” Anyone else able to provide some insight? Is this accurate?

The link for sorority costs seems to still be accurate, although it was published in 2012. My daughter’s current semester sorority dues were $300. Last year’s guide to sorority recruitment lists the new member fees and subsequent semester dues for each sorority: https://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/interests/wfu-sorority-life-recruitment-2016-12539731?coupon=CYBER16&vk=mK4wXkUjgU&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F

Are rec letters are necessary or important for recruitment?

Rec letters are not as important at Wake as they are at other Universities. Dues are in the hundreds around $300 a semester

Rec letters are not that important; what is important is whether or not your student has high school connections with existing Wake sorority members. Students not from the Northeast or the Southeast and/or without pre-existing Wake connections will find that pledging a sorority is a bit of a challenge.

I have to disagree with the high school connections thing. No doubt it helps to know current sorority members, but you can meet them during fall semester - you don’t have to already know them when you arrive at school. My daughter didn’t know any sorority members before arriving at Wake. She met people during fall semester and pledged her top choice sorority, and her west-coast roommate also pledged her (different) top choice. Don’t stress if you don’t have high school connections!
