i'm going to umich this fall and was thinking about joining a sorority. is hazing a big problem at umich? which sororities haze the most? the least?

A lot of fraternities haze (some pretty badly). There’s some hazing in sororities but not even close to as much.

another reason why I’m not joining a frat. get wasted and sprawl in the gutter. I’ll pass.

my friend dropped as a pledge from a sorority after she was required to drink a shot of all the sorority sisters’ spit.

Many have zero hazing. If that’s you’re only reason for not joining a fraternity, you should at least check out a few of the houses that don’t haze during rush.

haha thats funny =p

Which are the houses that haze/don’t? Being the skilled negotiator that I am, would I be able to talk my way out of the hazing processes at the hazing frats? (haha)

What’s rush?

Rush is just a slang term for recruitment. It takes place a couple weeks into each semester. Formally, you go around to a bunch of houses’ recruitment events (basically just hanging out for a few hours) and get to know the guys, learn what their house is about, and figure out whether you think you would fit in (and more importantly to get a bid, whether the brothers think you would fit in). There are also some unofficial nighttime events at the good houses = small/big parties, off-campus stuff, other awesome s*** (use your imagination).

I don’t want to say things on this board that would cause people to judge a certain house because they do or do not haze. If you’re really curious you can pm me, but I suggest you get to campus in the fall, check places out and learn my word of mouth.

Not if you don’t want to be dropped from the house.

well I’ll check out the houses that are no-hazing. But honestly, the ones that do haze, thats so fcking immature. This is college. Your adults…grow the ■■■ up.

well u need to consider that this IS college. People like to have fun, do crazy ■■■, so then, why not?

Collegebound_guy,

It’s not even about being grown up and not doing dumb *****. It’s about building a bond between your pledge class. Some of my best moments in college have been during pledge term. You look back on those moments with your brothers and laugh about the stuff you had to do. My GDI friends have no idea and they aren’t even be able to relate.

Btw, hazing isn’t just about being forced to drink or any of that. Yes, that does happen, but not as much as people think. There’s other stuff, but you’ll have to see for yourself…
