Are there any sororities at USC that welcome a non-traditional type of girl? Most things about me seem to be the antitheses of the stereotypical sorority girl. I don't drink or party or do drugs, I'm bi (I've heard USC Sororities don't let in LGBT girls?? Or is that from the old days?), atheist, liberal...

Would there be any place for me at a USC sorority? I know some schools (like Northwestern) have a wide variety of sororities and they aren't all based on drinking/partying, but what about USC? I'm considering joining for the cohesive community of friends, networking opportunities, formal events, philanthropic opportunities, et cetera, but if the sororities are all as stereotypical as they are made out to be, I probably wouldn't fit in there.

To be honest, I don’t know if the panhellenic sororities care if you’re LGBT or not (I do know a couple of gay guys in fraternities, if that helps), but Alpha Delta Pi is the sorority that definitely has the more down to earth, diverse girls. Not to say that there aren’t cool girls in all the houses, but from your question, I don’t think the majority of the sororities would interest you, if you know what I mean. ;)

And anyway, sororities are definitely not based on drinking/partying, in the way you’re thinking of, because all sororities on the Greek row are dry and aren’t allowed to have alcohol in the house. And they definitely abide by it. (It’s the fraternities that always have parties/alcohol in the house.) Sure, social events center on drinking, but it’s never something you are forced to do.
