Hey guys! I was accepted to cmu for the class of 2016, and I was just wondering what greek life is like for the girls. I haven't seen much about it (perhaps I just didn't look hard enough), but I was wondering if someone could give me some general info about the cmu sororities. Is it super catty? What are the prices like? Do they have houses? just stuff like that! Thanks :)

Disclaimer: though I know a decent amount of Greek students and am cool with Greek life, I am not Greek.

It seems less catty and is less expensive than your average college sorority scene. That’s not to say it isn’t still catty – certain sororities like DG, aKDPhi (Asian sorority) and Theta have a reputation for being… not nice and/or supercilious. On the other hand, Kappa, TriDelt and AXO usually seem to trend towards the more community-active girls. This is not a blanket statement (there are nice and b**chy members of all houses) but that’s the general non-Greek perception of those houses.

Every sorority has a house last I checked. Kappa, Theta, TriDelt and DG are on the quad, while aKDPhi and AXO are located at the Hill.

FMR begins in the fall, you’ll see a lot of advertising then and the sororities will get very active with recruiting so you’ll definitely have a lot clearer idea of how the process works when you get on campus.

are any of the sorority’s known more for partying, or being more wild? I realize this is CMU not a state school! I’m just curious:)

^You have to realize that Sororities don’t usually host parties per-se. You’ll usually head over to a frat for that.
