sororities

what's a pref party? and we dont get our bids until sunday night?

also, is it possible to get a bid from more than one chapter or do they coordinate so that doesn't happen?

you only get a bid from one house.

they will explain all that (pref parties) to you monday better than i can on a message board. yes you get your bid sunday night, and you get a bid from either one house or no house.

princess, is every girl that rushes guaranteed to get a bid from one house?

they told us last year that everyone would get a bid unless you suicided a house during final round...suiciding is when you only pref one house because you don't like the other one or two you went to final round.

but what if you're down to three houses, and you really really prefer one house over the other two but you don't want to suicide. how do you let that one house know that you really wanna get a bid from them?

you put them as your first choice.

do you start ranking houses (i.e- 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) after you cut the first three and are left with nine. or do you only start ranking when you're down to three houses?

do they houses know the order in which you ranked them? so for example if you put a particular house as your 1st choice every time you're asked to rank, would you likely get a bid from that house?

you only rank the houses you want when you are down to three

When you are eliminating houses, you rank the bottom three each round, so the people who put your schedule together know where to send you in case you aren't asked back to the 9 or 6 houses you wanted (you don't rank these until final round), 2nd and 3rd round, respectively. That sounds confusing as hell, but it's really not.

the houses aren't supposed to know the order in which you ranked them

you guys are going to find out everything when you get there for the rush meeting and it will make more sense

what house you get a bid from depends on both your preference and the order of each house's bid list

what if we are invited back to less than 9 or 6 during those respective rounds?

when you are down to three houses you can rank them in order of preference

-if you don't have 9 or 6 parties to attend you just go to the number of parties you do have and take a break when you don't have a party.

at first you will only rank your bottom three, and your top houses are unranked.

you are guaranteed a bid as long as you attend all the rush parties you have been invited to every day and rank all the houses where you attended pref on your final ranking thingy.
(though if you ever didn't get a bid, aopi and azd usually extend bids to anyone who didn't get one and wants one.)

your rho chi's will explain all this kind of stuff,

were you guys nervous wrecks on sunday? i'm definetely going to be freaking out haha

not really.... you're kind of past the point of stress

and if they don't call you, you know you will get a bid..

(you have to stay in your room/by a phone for a certain amount of time on sunday, bc your rho chi will call you if you haven't got a bid, so you don;t go to the meeting and embarass yourself. if no one calls you you go meet with your rho chi group and get your bid)

they told us we could only be called if we suicided a house (most people didn't do this)...so most people didn't have reason to be that nervous

Sorority or Fraternity questions PM me.

also, since there are only about 12 sororities and something like 40 fraternities, all but the least preferred sororities mix with a very diverse group of fraternities. In other words, joining one house instead of another will not really change the fraternities you mix with, just the ones you mix with more often.

which ones do you consider the "least preferred"?

what are the chances of getting into the good sororities if you are a junior transfer rushing?? thanks

I don't think it's the best idea to rush as a junior; your pledge class will be comprised mostly of freshmen. I don't think most houses would react favorably to someone rushing as a junior.

what about someone rushing as a sophomore transfer?

also, rush runs from the 16-21st(sunday), so that means theres 5 days of visiting houses (tuesday-saturday). What is the attire for each of the 5 days?
