sororities

big red wine,

while your description sounds like the type of girls in a particular sorority (which I will not name) I don't beleive that a mjaority of sorority girls are like that. My girlfriend and a lot of my friends are in sororities on campus (both middle and top tier houses) and do not act this way at all. I think the sterotype of sorority girls is blown way out of proportion and is unfair. Same thing goes for fraternities, i hate being know as a "frat guy" or whatever because that's not what I am.

well, perhaps i was more cynical than i planned to be, but i was merely being critical of the sorority selection process. Not to say that the fraternity selection process is fair either - fraternities definitely evaluate what kind of family you come from, how you're dressed, how you look, and how much money you have.

also - I would say it's accurate of at least six sororities on campus.

im a girl in a sorority, and id have to say that his description, though really cynical and a little exaggerated, is semi-true. sorority rush is a lot about how you look, because if you only have a 5 minute conversation, lets be honest, its a contributing factor. HOWEVER...once rush is over, the initial shallow/superficial tendencies go away, and hopefully there was enough substance to your rush conversations that you really are in the house you belong in (which is what happens in most cases). its not totally superficial, but girls are girls, what do you expect?

haha big red wine, very accurate.

rush is really superficial, but there are some expections, like if you have an amazing personality that makes you seem less ugly/obese.

AOPi's new house is definitely one of the nicest on campus. I have some friends who pledged there this Spring who are nice, attractive, down-to-earth girls. Perhaps this sorority would be able to flourish if people stopped talking about girls they don't even know.

^ well said.

yea even though I am oblivious to Greek Life, I also don't think it's cool to make stupid generalizations of people you don't know, people who don't even know you exist even, just because of a sorority their in.

And strawberry88 I have a feeling you joined just to say that lol

okay im sorry but do people honestly think that most girls join sororities are about sisterhood bonding and special friendships? okay maybe some do go into the sororities just for that, but its mainly about

feeling better about yourself just bc you slap some greek letters on your shirt and bag

having a place to live soph year

elevating your social status

those girls might be nice girls but in relation to the whole point of greek life, people dont view it like that.

obviously strawberry just joined to pimp AOPi to naive pre-froshes...cute.

cmb, I joined a sorority so I could get wasted at mixers second semester...and uh...make special friendships. most of the girls in my house (and at cornell) were obviously losers in high school who suddenly think they're hot ****, so they cop enormous attitudes for no good reason. it's pleasant living with people like that for an entire year and seeing their arrogance develop and progress. oh, let's not forget about (strangely contagious) eating disorders, they're great.

yo spanks pm your phone number i got a new phone

you better be coming back for orientation week

I'll be up around August 16th, and there will be much disorientation

ya me too.. are you living in your house next year or are you gonna be in ct

im living east seneca

i lived on e. seneca. great location, not so great condition...like the majority of ct housing.

spanks, are you being serious about those reasons why you joined a sorority or are you just making a sarcastic repsonse to what CMB720 said?

i'm constantly being sarcastic...but I mean, what I said is true about some people at Cornell (and in my house, and in all other houses) and it's pretty annoying.

cmb, I'm living in collegetown

-Upper-Tier houses-
DG- Typically known as an upper house. Girls can be pretty *****y and fake. Some girls are really attractive while some are not. The latest pledge classes have been declining pretty heavily. Mix with some good fraternities but are pretty snobby about who they mix with. All in all they have been declining but still a good house.
Kappa- Good house. The house is pretty split between really attractive girls and not so attractive ones. They party pretty hard and are fun to mix with. Mix with some elite fraternities on campus. Known to be a bit morally lax.
Theta- Nice girls. Some really pretty upperclassmen but the latest pledge classes haven’t been all that great. Their theta love stuff gets really annoying. Usually fun to mix with. These girls are the typical sorority girl and are not all there in the intelligence sense.
Tri-Delt- Nice house with some really attractive girls. Really fun to mix with. Can party pretty hard. They mix with some really elite houses on campus but are not snobby about mixing with other houses for a good time too. Often referred to as a classier version of Kappa. All in all they are on the rise while some of the other upper-tier houses are declining a bit.
Alpha phi- Good house with some really pretty girls. They can be a bit boring though. They come across as being obsessed with their rank on campus and have recently tried to be in more of the “party scene” but they can be a little stuck up.

-Middle-Tier houses-
Pi phi- Fun to mix with. They have a lot of athletes in the house. Sweet girls but some can be a bit awkward.
SDT- Mix with a wide variety of houses. Alright to mix with. They are a very Jewish house which turns some girls off during rush.
AEPhi- Another very Jewish house. Not known for having a very tight sisterhood.

-Lower-Tier houses-
AChiO- Cute house with fun girls. Not the most attractive but they are sweet girls.
AZD- Nice girls but a little awkward. Kind of an anti-social house but their sisterhood is supposed to be pretty tight.
KD- Lots of very friendly and sweet girls. Not the most active or attractive house but they are pretty chill girls.

^ clearly in TriDelt

yep probably

after going through rush and all i’ll try to give my best shot at an unbiased ranking.
cause however you look at it tridelt is not “upper tier”

I think it’s stupid to really rank because trying to decipher between 1/2 or 4/5 is kind of ridiculous and impossible and just a matter of personality

“Top”-houses considered by the general student population to be the most popular-DG/KAPPA/THETA/ALPHA PHI

(descriptions in no specific order)
-DG, known as the “hottest” house, though some guys complain the girls tend to be stuck up about mixing with non-super-elite frats, most consider them the “*****iest.” (but obviously thats ok cause they’re hot, i guess) definitely the most rah rah sorority girl-like. (they snap, legally blonde style)
-Kappa, known to be great to mix with, party girls, love to have fun. from what I’ve heard they aren’t considered the best looking of the top houses, but clearly still good enough to be on top and cool/fun
-Theta, considered a very attractive house i think, but some people say that their latest pledge class isn’t as good looking. Its kind of stupid to go by that because it varies every year, obviously. The girls are nice and for some reason it’s always EVERYONE’S favorite throughout rush. They’re just really good at rush. Also pretty sorority-ish.
-Alpha Phi, supposedly they are usually thought of as pretty but a little boring/timid partiers compared to the other top sororities, but apparently this year guys have told me that the girls are really hot and really fun. who knows. but they’re definitely really sweet girls and their house is beautiful.

“Middle”-where most of the houses fit in. TRIDELT/PIPHI/SDT, AEPHI/ACHIO, they’re all in the middle somewhere and move around a lot.

The girls in all of these houses are pretty down to earth and nice. Because they are in the middle these houses also tend to be less worried about rank and such. They’re considered decent looking and fun to party with, for the most part.
TriDelt and PiPhi pretty similar in terms of reputation/looks I think, but they have different personalities. I think generally TriDelt is a little more girly and sorority-esque while PiPhi tends to have more athletes and is a little more carefree/chill. SDT is supposedly a “goodlooking” sorority but they are known as Jewish which turns some girls off and they often mix with Jewish frats. AChiO and AEPhi are also both “Jewish” sororities. The girls are nice and considered good to mix with.

“Lower”-generally considered the least popular houses-AZD/KD

Both of these houses are known to have nice girls, smart, involved girls who are cool to get to know. Not as popular as some of the others because they aren’t considered hot party girls. I know great girls in each of the houses. I think they are simply considered “lower” tier because they aren’t as much of a fit for what frats like in sororities.

the only way to really know if a sorority is for you though is to go through rush and see how you feel
