Sorority Dress Sale Sighting Thread!

So, if you know of an upcoming (maybe semi-annual, etc.) sale on Lilly, preference, or other clothing particularly suitable for recruitment, or even game-day dresses, let’s post info HERE.

For example, J. Crew Factory has “flats” on sale:

[Find everyday deals on women’s dresses, cardigans, skinny jeans & more - J.Crew Factory - Women](http://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing.jsp)

Their sale and clearance section often has cute dresses.

Hi TXArchitect…let me help with this one.

Being from the North, I had to make many new friends last year: Tory, Lilly, Ralph, Ms. Vines, etc. lol I also have 3 kids in college at the same time so money was a huge issue in getting D ready for school and recruitment.

D has 5 Lilly dresses, 4 pairs of her shorts and a whole lotta J Crew. I can tell you that I NEVER spent more than $55/$60 for any Lilly dress that she has. Her Callahan shorts which are a favorite on campus were generally found on ebay or the sites below for about $25.

I found some great sites that can truly help.

on Facebook: (these are closed groups that you need to join)
Re-Lilly - this site has over 20,000 members and they resell Lilly and only Lilly.
Our Preppy Closets - They sell all the names above along w/ Banana Republic, J Crew, etc.
Preppy Resale - Same as above

You will find some cross over selling between these, but mostly they are great for searching for items.

I also used Ebay extensively. I only did auction style sales and I searched for great deals. It was hit or miss…but I did find that looking for items now is much easier than trying to snag items in June as Recruitment gets closer.

J. Crew Factory - they regularly run sales with a code for an additional 20 to 30% off, but about once every 2 months they do a sale with an additional 50% off the sale price of an item! Just bought D 2 button down dress shirts for her suit, originally $80 each…I paid $52 for BOTH including all taxes and had a code for free shipping.

Also join the flash sale sites like: RueLaLa and Ideeli
A couple of weeks a go RueLaLa had a huge Lilly sale and I snagged a few things for D at amazing prices. Word of advice about flash sale’s…be quick you don’t have time to really think about it or email back and forth. I know D’s style and I know her sizes. Most times items can be returned with no penalty. BUT double check…it can change for super discounted items.

Nike Shorts…best prices I have seen are at Marshalls…I generally get what we up North call 'Norts" for $16 to $20 instead of full cost of $30 at Dick’s or Sport Mart.

Word of advice when doing any type of buying from individual sellers…always use PayPal so that you are protected from fraud or from a seller not shipping an item to you.

anyone have any questions…just PM me. I am the sale queen! ;)

You ARE the (very generous with your knowledge) SALE QUEEN!!!

^^ Thanks TXArchitect! Glad to give back to the group that gave so much to us when we started our UA jouney…

Oh I do have one more: On Facebook:
Shifting Lilly - this is only for ISO (in search of) posts. You know what dress and size you are looking for so you post something like: ISO Lilly Callahan Pink Shorts size 8.
If someone has them they will post back to you and boom…a sale is made!

Hope this helps some of you save some $$$

When does the PINK DOOR IN MEMPHIS have its next sale? Those new Lilly dresses with the MAd Men skater cut would look lovely on DD…

Ohhhh I completely forgot to add them to my list! That is one great sale…

They had one not too long ago so the next one will be for the Spring/Summer line. I just looked at my invoice from last year and I placed the order on July 12th…which was the first day of the sale.

So it should be early to mid-July for the next one…this was 40% off your total bill. And there were also some additional markdowns from items from earlier seasons.

They shipped within days and we had our purchase in plenty of time to pack for our trip to school.

On our trip to UA for BB we hit Belks and tried on a bunch of Lilly so that D would know what styles fit her and what she liked. it worked great. Everything we bought online from Ebay to Pink Door fit perfecrtly!

Wish I had had luck in finding a bargin Prom dress…but , alas , no. Retail - ugghhhh.

I comfort myself that it will happily go to college to be worn again…

^^We are counting on a “2nd Preview” too! DD’s prom was this past weekend She picked her dress with an eye towards college rather than HS. It is beautiful but not prom-y (i.e., not a ball gown and in a very wearable color).

Great advise so far on acquiring the Right Stuff.

We were extremely lucky - found 2 brand new (with tags) Lilly dresses at our local high end consignment store. DD is not a fan of most Lilly dress styles (but LOVES the fabrics), so I was ecstatic to pay only $40 and $47 for them. Wasn’t looking forward to making a big investment when DD wouldn’t be thrilled every time she put one on.

We did find Lilly Twin XL sheets, and so DD’s dorm room will be appropriately resplendent, even if she isn’t.

Any moms that are teachers can get an additional 15% off at JCrew, Ann Taylor, and The Loft. JCrew also gives student discounts with an ID.

Geez, I’m a teacher, but I don’t have a daughter. Guess the only thing my sons can get excited over is the 20 percent discount we get at Denny’s, thanks to my AARP card.

Remind me why I think DD will need a WHITE DRESS for recruitment (or thereafter)? I am looking at our “shopping list” and can’t remember “why” and especially the exact specifications of the dress (e.g., chaste, formal, Sunday-best, sundress…)

Any info?

This is only from my fuzzy memory…I thought I read or heard that it was best for PNM’s to not wear white such as a solid white dress during recruitment. They could but best not to wear all white. That some houses may be wearing all white themselves or such. Plus, the PNM’s want to “stand out” and it is harder to stand out in all white.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong? I know I’ve seen some really cute all white dresses for DD but we have avoided those.

Was it that they would need them after pledging???

Not sure as per all correct Southern protocol, one will not wear white after Labor Day. I’ve been stickler for that since infancy. Maybe there is some event that one would need white. If I found one that was too wonderful to resist, I’d probably go ahead and purchase and have on hand.

Wow, I just read this! (I had previously skipped, because, let’s be honest…yawn…recruitment?!..yawn…) But I can get extra 15% off JCrew?! Yahoo!!!

FWIW, my Freshman HS D has a white daisy-lace dress (like Cora Lace dress on JCrew) and she looks stunning in it and wears it fairly often. She can dress it up or down; can wear it with colored accessories to make 'em pop, a cut-off sleeve jean vest for edge, or keep it chaste, as you say. Pairs it with ballet flats (Burch knock-offs, yes, but hey, she’s in HS!) or super hi cork wedgies. It’s all good.

Most sororities require a white dress for initiation. I know of one that requires a long white dress, but I would go ahead and buy a normal length white dress now. Initiation takes place when NO white is able to be found at any stores, late fall.

That’s IT!!! I KNEW there was a reason!!!

Thank you, thank you. This has been bugging me all day. I looked at that on our to-buy list and totally blanked on WHY we felt she HAD to have WHITE.

Have to say…I have enjoyed reading this thread of “girl talk”. When my DD was making her college list it also included clothing and accessories, dorm room decorations, etc. But, now preparing for DS, also the low maintenance child,it is very different. Getting him to shop for things is like pulling teeth…the only thing I have gotten out of him so far is that he wants to only take clothes in dark colors so he doesn’t have to worry about sorting laundry…

Yes…white dress and black dress for rituals that will occur on/after Bid Day. Many sororities use white dresses for initiation and I know of several that use a black dress for rituals.
Many sororities will wear white and/ or black dresses for Skit and Pref. We usually tell pnms not to wear white and black for recruitment but you will see girls in them. My thought is that if you have a great white or black dress that you love and feel confident in then wear it. As always take several clothing options for each day…you never know what mood you will be in.
I too would suggest to shop for white now…and especially as it starts to go on sale…it will be hard to find in late fall.
We stock up on great LBDs whenever possible…can’t have enough…especially for date parties.

We wore white dresses for Pledge Presentation Dinner Dance (similar to a Debutante Ball, each pledge is formally presented by her father, but also has a date/escort). The Actives wore Pink (sorority color). Don’t know if that’s still done.
