DD hadn't thought she'd be interested, but now is wondering if she should see if there might one that's a fit (both ways). Is there somewhere that we should already have noted "interested in" so she can get information on how this works?

Did take a look at the Missouri Greek Life website, I hate to seem like an idiot, but I really don't understand what are the first steps? Is there something she needs to do now? later in spring? summer?

Guess growing up in house full of brothers, I cringed at the idea of female only living so didn't explore it when I went to college OH SO LONGGGG ago and now don't know how to guide her.

DD rushed as a freshman and joined a sorority and is very happy with it. I like it because there’s a lot of pressure to keep grades up and I don’t have to worry about housing next year since she will live in the house. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have gotten more letters of recommendation. It seems that you survive the recruitment process longer if girls know who you are (a lot of St.Louis girls who all know each other). Coming from CA like us makes things a bit more difficult. I would email blast my friends and ask them if they were in a sorority and check if that sorority is at Mizzou and ask them to write a letter for your daughter.DD only had one letter from an alumni aide who helps her chapter at our local university but that sorority dropped her on the 5th day. I think if she had more, it may have helped. Also, the sororities cut on high school grades - - I would guess 3.5 or better would be helpful.

Thank you dk2662. Does Mizzou rush activities start before school general move-in, do we need to keep in mind earlier travel arrangements? How has your daughter liked the weather - my DD is not fazed by what she may have to deal with but she really hasn’t had exposure to it.

Recruitment (new name for Rush) starts a week before the other kids move into the dorms so you have to book travel earlier. We flew on a Saturday and move in was on Sunday. DD has adapted to the weather. The only time I’ve heard her whine was when she had to wear a skirt to a sorority function and it was going to snow. She later said it wasn’t so bad. She also missed her car a lot. No complaining during xmas break about taking her little bro to practices. She also stopped saying where she was from bcuz she got tired of “Then why are you HERE?” haha. I believe the alumni send straight to the sorority but they should know what to do/ what the proper channels are.

LOL my daughter’s answer at college visit quickly became “because it’s Not California”. She’s in love with everything she’s learning about the school. On facebook, twitter, and who knows what other Mizzou sites. She loved commenting “we’re having a snow day” - we had to point out that “she” wasn’t.

When moving DD in before Rush should I plan on sticking around for a few days or do most parents come in for weekend and head home? Also will the dorm she picks be open for early move-in or is it select dorms?

We flew in on the Saturday and stayed at the Hampton Inn on Fellows Place near the school. We picked up our stuff pre-ordered from Bed Bath & Beyond on Saturday. We got in the “drop off” line early on Sunday which was a good tip. You move your stuff on the lawn and park and then move into your (permanent) room. The dads were very helpful moving the beds to bunks. We left the new roomies to get themselves organized. They had sorority info in the evening so that was it. We drove to STL and flew home on Monday. We were glad the younger brother was at a sports camp. He would have been bored and in the way.

Know when moved son into his large school the weekend before for an honors program (along with sorority move-in) and it was a lot smoother and easier to get situated. I was even able to make a quick pick up and return to drop off before our slotted hour was up. Is it the same at Mizzou? Haven’t heard does Mizzou have sign-ups for hour slots or it come as you please and wait in line?

I recall we had a 10-2 time slot and we got in line at 9:30 and it was already backed up but the volunteers wave you thru fairly quickly. They give you a 1 hour parking pass. You drop your stuff off and park. They do call you when your hour is up to free up spaces for others.

Thank you dk2662. I am pretty open to whatever may happen but its always best to give hubby an idea of what’s ahead. Did the shopping meet up with future roomie and mom over the weekend and can already tell they will require more arranging to fit “everything” than her brother “the minimalist”.
