Hi - can someone give me some advice on dorms? And are there parts of campus or certain dorms where first years who want to go Greek live?

Are you a first year or upperclassman?

First years don’t have a say in where they live much anymore, so there’s no one area besides traditional first year housing where pre-Greeks live.

Upperclassmen live everywhere so I wouldn’t say there’s a specific area for that either. Are you looking at specific places or just asking before you look?

The reason why UVa doesn’t let 1st year students pick a dorm is because it had resulted in too much self-segregation. They want new students to interact with a cross-section of students, and don’t want the engineering students picking one dorm complex and the pre-Greeks picking another, etc.

And, how is sorority rush for out of state girls? Are they locked out of most sororities since UVa has so many Virginia kids?

Rush for OOS girls is just fine. You will visit all the houses and find the girls you like best. You’ll find some sororities with mostly (or at least a lot of) OOS girls, and fit in great.

Try to get old dorms. And second year live off-Grounds near 14th street with pretty girls :)

Huh? You don’t have a say in where you live first year. Also it really doesn’t matter where you live your second year either – it won’t affect your rush if you’re rushing as an upper-classman. UVA sorority rush can be very competitive; however, your campus residence really doesn’t make a huge difference.
