My daughter will be a freshman this coming year and is interested in possibly joining a sorority. I remember someone saying that the sorority rush week is scheduled for the week before the spring semester begins. This would put it at January 9th (or so). Is this correct? I want to book a vacation over the winter break, so if someone could let me know the exact dates, it would be very helpful to me. Thanks so much!!

Not correct.

Sorority Rush is in the spring, but it starts after the semester begins. IIRC, it’s a 3 week period that begins in late January and goes 'til mid/late February.

Registration for rush opens in December.

Thanks WayOutWestMom! That is good news! I’m surprised that I got such incorrect information…I thought it was from our tour guide, but I couldn’t swear to it. But I have faith in your response cause you’re such an avid poster!! Thanks again :)

The confusion might have been over the mandatory orientation all potential rushers must attend before they can officially enter Rush. There are 2 sessions and they are in December.

But there’s no official sorority recruitment activities during winter break–it’s a rules violation.

D was in a sorority and was even an officer one year and I know she never went back early for Rush. (I was the one booking her plane tickets.)
