Hi, my 2023 DD is planning to rush. She knows it takes place in January before all students return to campus from winter break. Will she need a resume, HS transcripts, recommendations, photos, etc? What clothing will she need? Is Wake sorority recruitment as intense as other southern schools like Alabama? I was in a sorority at a northern school, that does not have a chapter at Wake, and recruitment was relatively low key back then.
They will give her all the information she needs throughout the fall semester. There’s actually a mandatory rush session and application process ahead of actual rush with plenty of Q & A. Also, her fall could include (I assume it will) getting to know a lot of the greek orgs as they have lots of get togethers, events, parties, etc. This is a good time to get a feel for the different chapters and see where she wants to be.
Just have her have an open mind. Plenty of people think they will rush and don’t while others think they won’t and do. And of course there are many who stay in their original lane.
@UGG2023 Sorority rush at Wake is not as intense as at a school like Alabama. Like @rickle1 said they will have all of fall semester to kind of check it all out. I also agree she should have an open mind and follow the whole rush process through. Lots of friends daughters have gone through rush and it has been a good experience for them. Some getting their top choice and some had a different outcome then they expected but are happy! Tell her not to worry about it first semester worry about making friends and getting involved in other activities. I know that people do get Rec letters but you have time for that!
No letters of recommendation or anything like that is required. They will get all the information they need first semester and a booklet about attire each day. It’s definitely not like Alabama but not quite as relaxed as northern sororities but I would say more similar to northern. The best thing she can do is get to know upperclassmen- especially sophomores first semester through clubs and activities. Definitely helps if they know people.
I would add that at Wake it’s easy to get to know upperclassmen as a freshmen. Very close knit student community. Lots of classes mixed with multi yr students based on core requirements. Clubs will have all years involved. S had lots of sophomore and upperclassmen friends his freshman yr.
@UGG2023 did you get the Daily Deac yesterday? There is a greek life webinar happening this summer. Here is a link to the info in case you didn’t get it…https://parents.wfu.edu/2019/06/greek-life-webinar/
