Sorority vs. Dorm Life at SU

I’m almost 17, a junior in high school, and plan on applying to Syracuse for early decision in the fall.

One of the things I’ve been looking into the most is campus life. I live in California, so I will definitely have to live on campus all four years. I haven’t been able to find much information on costs for sororities. I’ve been considering rushing for a sorority my freshman year, and possibly live in the chapter house my junior and senior years (if I rush, and if I even get into one). Is it cheaper to live in a sorority house or in dorms? (only applies to junior and senior year, since only upperclassmen are allowed to live in Greek housing) Also, how bad is the hazing at SU, if there is any?

If you search the SU link for Panhellenic Council, you will find pages that show the cost for each sorority. The semester that you pledge it averages around $1000. Thereafter it drops down considerably. It costs several thousand less to live in a sorority house than it does to live in the dorms. However, the houses only hold roughly 30 women. Since chapter sizes are around 200 members, not everyone is allowed to live in the house. These spots are typically taken by seniors who have been waiting for a chance to live there and awarded to chapter officers and those most involved. Of all the sororities that are on campus, there are 2 or 3 that are rumored to haze. I do not believe it to be physical in nature, it is more intimidation by yelling, etc. Most of the chapters do not haze.
