Yeah, I messed up the format on the last one when I tried to make an Eminem reference. Hopefully moderators have deleted that post. I'm looking for some brutally honest criticism on all my reaches. Please give me an "accept," "waitlist," or "rejected" for each school. If you want to add some comments thats totally fine. And if any kids who know me are stalking this thread, feel free to comment, I don't mind. Next year will be the last year we spend together, we should savor our last moments!!
SAT: 2400 first try with 12 essay
SAT II: Math iic 800; chemistry 800
AP: I think 4 5's so far?
Grades: ranked top 1%, 4.6 weighted (our school is so wierd), I'm guessing 4.0 uw?
Awards: USABO semi, 225 on PSAT so NMS, nothing else really
EC: Math club president. trying to found an Mu Alpha Theta with this new principal coming in (last one was an old man who couldnt care less about clubs), I probably wont put the on my app. Earth club. Robotics Team. Columbia SHP (took one incredibly hard class and one really fun one). Founded a study-guide business that several hundred bucks, I also did some college consulting stuff. Probably not putting on my apps but I play rec basketball and am doing this summer session thing at school. I don't know maybe varsity or JV next year if i have time.
Doing research at an Ivy league school investigating a special type of RNA helicase, collaborating with another Ivy to test my computational results. Prof. is making new proposals that includes my work. He supports entering siemens and intel. I'm all for it as well.
I moved to this quaint jersey town 2 years ago. I guess I'm not your typical applicant but who am i kidding?

Ok, here are all my reach schools:
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Columbia SEAS
MIT
Chicago
Duke
Northwestern
UPenn Wharton M&T
Stanford
Brown
Cornell

I promise, exactly one year later at this time, I will comment on this thread and commend or critique all your predictions. It will be fast like blink of an eye, trust me on this one.

Yes on Chicago, Duke, Cornell, Columbia (if you apply ED).

Probable - MIT, Northwestern (if you don’t show them love but just apply, they will reject).

UPenn, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown - Probably in at one or two.

Are you going to do EA at HYPM or ED anywhere else?

Yo homies, thanks for chancing. Yes, I will be doing EA at MIT and EA at chicago. No ED’s.

Alright EA at those schools does help a bit. I’d say yes to Chicago and probably to MIT. I’d say yes to 4-5 of the Ivys/Stanford that are on your list and Duke and NW and probably (sometimes they have spotty admissions)

Although I hate the patriots, I chanced you.

from the yale admission website:

“Between two and three hundred students in any year are so strong academically that their admission is scarcely ever in doubt.”

Hopefully you’re one of those! good luck

^are you being sarcastic?

no…

if your LORs are strong (make sure your teachers have enough info to write personal and informed letters) and your essays are exceptional, all your academic stats are, literally, perfect

only thing is maybe could have gone a little heavier on the APs

Idk what you think your gonna get from doing a chances thread other than the same answers everyone gets who gets a 2400 and has good ecs “hypsm is a crapshoot and everything else you should get in unless something weird happens which isnt out of the question”

I’m bumping this just one more time. can u give me a reach/match kind of thing? bear with me here my dear friends!

Ok, seems like everyone is reluctant to chance. But I have one question: why did texaspg group Brown with HYP and Wharton M&T? Is Brown THAT fickle, or something else?

HYP - 50% chance of getting into one or more
Columbia SEAS - low reach
MIT - mid reach
Chicago - match
Duke - match
Northwestern -match
UPenn Wharton M&T - mid reach
Stanford - should be mid reach, but who knows
Brown - safety?
Cornell - in

Cornell behaves a bit differently than Brown because it admits a lot more people.

Columbia prediction is based on SHP and ED combination. Regular admit percentage is lower than Harvard at the moment at 5.6%. So if you apply regular as you seem to intend with apps to Chicago and MIT EA, it needs to move down to the Ivy grouping.

So knowing what I know now:

Harvard - reach
Yale - reach
Princeton - reach
Columbia SEAS - probably in with ED but otherwise still good chances with SEAS and SHP. SEAS admit rate is higher.
MIT EA probably in (75%?). SHP helps.
Chicago In
Duke In
Northwestern In if you showed some love.
UPenn Wharton M&T UPenn - 60%, wharton MT - 25%?
Stanford crapshoot
Brown probably in (80% based on SAT score)
Cornell In

alright thanks for the detailed breakdown. btw, texas, are you a college consultant or something? you seem very knowledgable.

I am a parent with a kid applying in 2012 too.

I am curious - Where are you doing research? You should have really good chances at that Ivy.

I’d rather not disclose, but its in one of the schools I’m applying to. Bump this because I wanna!

Also, to all the homies who’s chancin me, please addd Dartmouth to my list, as I forgot about it.

Strong chances. I suggest that you don’t use your real name for posting, though. Are you Andrew Sun?

I don’t see why I shouldnt use my real name, even if that WERE (subjunctive mood) my real name. I live without anything to hide about. I want to go to a good college, and I want to know my chances, what’s wrong with that? Well it does explose myself to people I know and thus make me vulnerable to gossip, but I couldn’t care less.
