Sorry about this, but this is an emergency!

I haven't submitted the 2005 tax forms to Dartmouth yet because I didn't think it would be due until March along with the IDOC! I checked the website and Dartmouth wanted it on February 1st!!! Now I have to rush and make copies and send it out. However, I don't know what pages of the tax forms they want! The first two pages? The whole thing? Please help!

When colleges say they want 2005 or 2006 tax forms, which pages do they want you to copy for them?

Unless they mention specific forms or schedules, send the whole thing.

From their website:

"If you will not have your 2006 federal income tax returns completed by February 1, please submit a copy of all 2005 federal income tax returns (parents and student) and 2006 W-2 forms directly to Dartmouth."

Send all of it. Make sure it is signed.

Do we need to send state tax forms (last 2 pages of 1040)? Who needs to sign it?

when they ask that the forms be signed, do they want them signed anywhere we can find space on the sheet?

If you don't get any responses, PM sybbie719. She's the FA guru and a Dartmouth mom. I would also contact the financial aid office directly- trying to get FA after a deadline can be very tricky.

Your parents need to sign their tax returns and W-2's. If you have either, you need to sign yours. If possible, fax it in to get it there quickly, as well as mailing a copy.

When they say they must be signed, they mean in the spot where you sign them before you send them to the IRS.

^Where is that, specifically? Do we need signatures on every page or just one?

There is a place for a signature on every federal income tax return. THAT is where the signature goes. You will sign your return, and your parents will sign their returns on those lines...and put the date next to them. Actually, they should be signed and dated as of the date you actually filed them so if you filed electronically, just fill in that date. On a 1040EZ the signature is at the bottom of the first page. On a 1040, it is at the bottom of the second page.

IhDC,

Calm down, it is going to be ok. The FA people at Dartmouth are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They have seen it all and heard it all. Don't worry, they will work with you.

Have your parents completed their 2006 Taxes?

If no, then you need to do the following:

If you will not have your 2006 federal income tax returns completed by February 1, please submit a copy of all 2005 federal income tax returns (parents and student) and 2006 W-2 forms directly to Dartmouth.

Make a copy, take this stuff to the post office tuesday and send overnight mail.

Signed copy of your Parents' 2005 Federal Income Tax Return, including all schedules, W-2 forms.

Signed copy of Student's 2005 Federal Income Tax Return, if filed, including all schedules.

However, your parents still need to complete their 2006 tax information as soon as possible in order for you to get the most accurate financial aid package.

Once the 2006 forms are completed then you should send the 2006 tax information through the IDOC

Documents required by Dartmouth College to be submitted through the IDOC process:

Signed copy of Parents' 2006 Federal Income Tax Return, including all schedules, W-2 forms.

Signed copy of Student's 2006 Federal Income Tax Return, if filed, including all schedules.

CSS Business/Farm Supplement(s), and corresponding 2006 Corporate or Partnership federal tax returns complete with schedules.

Estate and Trust Information (if you, your parents, or siblings are beneficiaries of an estate or trust, submit a copy of the appropriate Schedule K-1 of Form 1041 or Form 4970.)

Additional information that may be submitted to the College Board:

Letter of Special Circumstances- If the information you are required to submit does not accurately reflect your family's financial situation, or if you believe a particular circumstance should receive special attention, we suggest you write a separate letter and enclose it with the documents that you submit to The College Board's IDOC Service.

Note: It is necessary to submit only one complete packet (one set of required documents) to IDOC. If you have more than one institution listed on your cover letter, each school listed will receive images of your information.

you can get your IDOC cover sheet from

use your SSN and your birthdate.

I'm a little confused by this particular statement. I have my 1040 here and the last two pages of it are NOT my state tax forms. 1040 is a federal income tax form...and does not include your state tax form.

no need to send copies of your state return.
