Sorry! Another "ED chance" thread (u guys must be tired looking at these..)

Hi all…
Its another anxious senior
who wants to be a brown student…

Even though I’ve been looking into this school only for few months,
I like brown’s open curriculum, “students are most happy” traditions, and general atmosphere (from what im hearing)

So I’m definitely going to early decision here
but I do not know how much chance I have…

OK here we go…

Nationality: South Korean

uw 11th GPA [1sem.] 3.5(…) // [2nd sem.] 3.68 (w. 4.33/4.5)

the reason my weighted gpa is high is that our district weights certain “honors” courses…

my 9th grade classes are not good because I did not speak English well at that time… (well… it’s not so great now either)

- Old World Archaeology and Art

Unlike so many brilliant cc students here,
I do not have 4.0 uw gpa,10 APs, 2300 sats or have amazing ecs either…

Do you think I still would have a chance in brown’s early decision?
arg… I’m worried…

I really would appreciate your concerns and inputs…

Thank You for your trouble and time.
Thank you!!!

ps. again i apologize in advance if my grammer troubled you reading this as you can see I’m still learning english…

i think you answered your iwn question: "@ ECs: (sigh.. this should be my weakest point along with SAT I)"
basically, you have serious doubts about two really critical parts of the application... my guess is that you have an average to slightly better than average shot.

Thanks
Somehow I knew somebody was going to say something like that, but it doesn't hurt to ask, you know.

ps.
is my ec that bad?
I thought I could show some kind of "passion" through my achievement(?) in those club activites and awards..

Your ecs aren't that bad. Colleges tend to prefer depth to breadth, and your ecs show interest.

Your rank is slightly low. Students in the top 5-10% of their class were admitted at the extremely low 7.3% admit rate last year.
http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/gettoknowus/factsandfigures.html

On the flip side, you're choosing an unpopular major and applying ED. In past years, only 1-8 people have majored in OWAA. If you bring this out enough in your application, it will help. http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Institutional_Research/annrep/2005%20PDF/TABLE11_2005.pdf

My advice would be to write excellent essays and leave plenty of time for them to be proofread and critiqued by others. I would also consider schools that range in selectivity, just in case. Beloit, Boston U, Bowdoin, College of Wooster, Cornell, Dartmouth, Davidson, Duke, Emory, George Washington, Haverford (with Bryn Mawr), Hamilton, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, NYU, Penn State, Tufts, U Chicago, UC Berkeley, UCLA, U Penn, UNC Chapel Hill, UT Austin, U Toronto, and Wesleyan come to mind. You might consider applying EA or rolling to some of these.

I've been little depressed since everybody i asked "do i have chance in brown's ed" said "no"
(not that they were being mean about it.. I guess they were being candid.)

Anyway thank you..! Words of encouragement are always good to hear..
I will take your advice to heart thanks!!

I'm applying ED and South Korean too!! :)

Hope to see you in Sept:)
