i'd like to apply m&t because im a problem solver by nature and have always been fascinated by finance and what happens with money behind the scenes. am i competitive for m&t, cause id be ok with going to just penn. could i get chanced for both? also, how are we supposed to go about the why penn essay. thanks

You’re a white male non legacy without a hook who’s obviously a total geek since he started a ping pong club…aka you don’t have a chance.

LOL just kidding, i <3 ping pong. And I play night badminton (badminton at night! yay!) so I can’t talk.

Your SAT CR “verbal” is kinda weak but your subject tests are awesome…You definitely look competitive! I’d let you in! :stuck_out_tongue:

Given how well you’re doing in those math-science-y gross boy subjects, apply for M &T.
But everything hinges on the essay - if you can prove to the adcoms you can write (and you got a 780 so I’m sure you can) and that your CR was out-of-character, you should have a good chance.

:) Chance me?

If I’m not mistaken, you are Danny G?

Oh, and that Stuy took 4 from Wharton this year instead of 3, and 3 more from CAS. Last year, they took 11 in total (ED + RD) and 7 the year before. In other words, they already took more or less most of the people they will need, the 7 ED acceptances does not work in your favor for your RD chance.

you guessed right code monkey, who are you, im gonna guess Y.T.? yeah i know it doesn’t help me at all, but im still hoping lol. im gonna go write my essays now. yay fun…
thanks cord :)

Wow skills. How did you know I’m YT? I didn’t leave my stats around waiting for people chance, when it’s commonly known that ivy apps are nearly crapshoots…

Math Team Co-Captain <– Since when? When we were deprived of that right, no one spoke up against the tyranny.

Even though I only caught a glimpse of your essay, I don’t look very favorably upon your hampshire essay, and perhaps your essays in general, due its topic selection, style, and lack of real content (sorry a bit of harsh here, but guess who will be even harsher when they have to reject 90% of the applicants). And most of all, don’t double space it.

And oh yea, I came across this thread totally by chance. I only read about 2 ~ 3 random thread on this site per day… It’s kind of interesting to see you here, merely days after Alan T. told me about how he want to dorm with you if you get in RD.

Sure i dont mind harshness. I figured only YT would roam the Penn boards and know me by my stats lol. Yeah i just needed a reason to procrastinate my essays. I didn’t really expect anything out of this post other than a timekill. Dunno, i always thought the math team worked differently, like the top group of kids are all cocaps. Or that’s how it was previous years, so it shouldnt matter. Yeah, i know, my essays are kinda lame, but its hard for me to think of a topic, and as i mentioned, not a writer. If i think of a better one ill use it, but for now, Hampshire Cap the Flag is the best I have. Yeah and I dont think im applying to m&t. Chances are slim at Wharton alone.

M/T has nothing to do with finance, it’s a dual degree benefiting those with a passion in management and engineering. It would have been nearly an automatic rejection if you did indeed apply to M/T claiming you want to concentrate in finance…
But yea, good luck, you have a very decent chance with your 97 gpa, if your essay can turn out okay. But remember, sat and gpa can’t tank your way through (but then Samantha W, with her rather contentless essay for MIT, imo, is probably an exception).

why is double spacing bad? i did that…

uh, a whole bunch of m+t and dual wharton-engineering kids do finance

I think you are kinda like me: strong math/science credentials and lacking in leadership.

Your school seems to be a lot better at getting college acceptances however and USAMO is definitely impressive.

With that said, are you applying to wharton, cas, or seas? And if you are still considering M&T, I think you should give it a try.
