Sorry for another thread like this, but LA or Berkeley for pre-med?

I know there are a bunch of threads like this at this point but please help me decide. I'm from SoCal so UCLA is closer to home for me. However, I visited the campus yesterday and felt that it was too much for me. It seems that people focus less on academics and they party more there. I heard the Berkeley students focus more on academics and I'm the type of person who studies a lot and doesn't get out often. However, I have yet to visit Berkeley and I will do so in 2 weeks. I've been really wanting to go to UCLA for the past 2 years but after getting into Berkeley and LA, I don't know which one to choose right now. If I do choose to attend LA, I'm planning to major in Biology and doing pre-med. Right now, I am a MCB major at Berkeley and I heard being MCB and doing pre-med is really hard at Berkeley so I will switch to Public Health if I enroll there. How would you compare doing pre-med at Berkeley and UCLA. I know both schools are hard for pre-med so this makes the choice even tougher so please help. Thanks for you input.

all i know about berkeley is that mcb is their premed major, just as phy sci is the (main) premed major for ucla. that’s probably why mcb is hard at berkeley. i guess you wanted to go to ucsf for med school then go to berkeley, if you wanted to go to usc or ucla for med school then go to ucla. geographic location is very important. not sure about oos med schools, though.

Uhh, you’re not more likely to get into UCSF or UCLA med if you go to Cal or UCLA undergrad, respectively. On the contrary, it’s actually widely rumored that you’re LESS likely to get in to the med programs of the same school you went to for undergrad (which is also untrue).

^Cal is strongly affiliated with UCSF, its not like doing research for a faculty member at UCSF in undergrad WONT help you…
its probably not a coincidence that there are a hell of a lot more Cal grads at ucsf than the rest of the uc’s combined from what i have heard from multiple people…

I hear we have more internship opportunities here at UCLA with the Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Cedar-Sinai. I believe that is why a good majority of UCLA pre-med students come here.

Grassb, its kind of a “known fact” that ucsf med school has more cal students than all the UC’s combined. Go cry about the fact you didnt get in to cal now.

^ I’m not a pre-med so I’m not interested in UCSF. I didn’t apply to Cal.

There is no such thing as a premed major at Cal. A lot of premeds are misled to think that MCB gives them some kind of advantage for medical school, when it doesn’t. MCB is hard both because the material is hard and because to many uninterested premed are deceived into majoring in it.
