I'm in high school, and I'm seriously considering a major in some form of business (probably from a management standpoint). I wanted to know what sorts of activities I should begin looking into to prepare me for a possible business major... Should I get a job at a small business, or an internship at a company, or what?

I haven't thought too much about this until now, but I want to do some kind of extracurriculars that would give me more insight to this area of study... I won't be applying to college for about a year and a half, so at this point my options are pretty open. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Cookies!, since you’re in high school, I wouldn’t worry too much about getting internships right now. Most students that do internships are college students(primarily after their junior years). Since you are still in high school, I don’t think it really matters too much where you are working. Whether it’s a waiter at a restaurant, store clerk, etc. If you get an internship though that’s great. You can still go for them.

As far as activities go, does your high school have any business clubs? If so, I would participate in those.

They have a few classes, but I don’t have time in my schedule to fit them in… I don’t mind though, because they aren’t very practical…

That’s good to know though, because I clearly have some time to think about it…

Thanks

The business classes at my high school are also not very good. Just have leadership positions in your clubs or electives. I was the Captain, President and Founder of a couple different organizations and I must say the most fun was creating my own club because it’s so hard to do so at my school.

If you have enough time that you are considering internships, you have enough time to start or join some clubs and be involved.

Statistics and economics classes are available at most high schools. While they may not be business, you’ll need both being a business major so even if you can’t get AP credit, it couldn’t hurt if the class is at least decently taught.
