Sorry to annoy people but, what is the College of General Studies?

i see alot of people are going to CGS and had low gpa’s. is that like taking romedio classes instead of real classes untill your able to finally get into one of BU’s other colleges?

if i get a GPA of 3.26 UW while im applying Early Decision, will i have a chance of getting in to CAS?

Freshman YR: 2.75 UW
Sophomore YR: 3.05 UW
Junior YR: 4.0 UW

gotten these grades on the SAT II’s:
Global History- 730
Chemistry- 700
Math Level 1- 710
English- taking this year
Physics- taking this year

taken 3 IB classes and 3 Honors classes so far throughout my years and taking 6 IB classes next year 4 my senior year

Running for President of Student Council ad have a big chance of winning.

i applied for Boston Universities High School Honors Program during the summer. and getting my notification soon.

did you mean remedial courses?

yes my bad lol

there’s a ton of threads about cgs, just look through those and look at the curriculum by googling it. cgs students can give you a better perspective on what the courses are like.

Look at the CGS website. It explains the program. It’s not remedial. You could also look at NYU’s Directed Studies website because that’s the same thing.

OP - you won’t get into CGS if you apply ED unless you apply to the school directly. For ED you either get into the school you applied to, get rejected or get deferred to RD. It is only during the RD process where it it possible to apply to a school but get offered admittance to CGS instead.

The coursework isn’t remedial but it is a joke. It’s more that it’s just compeletely different than what anyone else in your major will be doing their first two years- and without a doubt way easier, which is why it’s kind of frustrating to others including myself. But yeah, not like “remedial” just really structured, hold your hand-type of busy work.

do you think a kid with a 3.25 UW gpa would get into CAS? or will i be destined for CGS?

i got a 4.0 gpa my junior year so far and im taking 3 IB courses and 2 Honors Courses! i was just lazy my Freshman and Sophomore year, thats why i did bad. i wish they could understand me.

There’s no guarantee anyone is bound for CGS. It depends on a lot of factors.

CGS is about so much more than grades. It’s not like, oh, your stats are lower than CAS kids’ so we’ll automatically place you in CGS. It about where the admissions people think will be YOUR best fit. I’ve seen people get 1650s on the SATs and make it into CAS and people with 1800s only get into CGS. College is never about only numbers.
