sort of different UCR vs SDSU thread

Hey guys! I've been following this forum and I'm really grateful for everyone's input. Thanks for all the info and help I've gotten over the past couple months. =)

I know there's already been a UCR vs SDSU thread, but it hasn't helped me settle between the two. My major and story are different: I was rejected from UCB, UCSD, and UCI, and left with the local SFSU or SDSU I decided SD because I want to be away from home. I had a battle with myself between community college and SDSU because I eventually want to graduate with an engineering degree from a UC, but considering living at home and two years in not-as-motivated classes I finally settled on SDSU again. I got too lazy to apply for the honors program there.
So I eventually married myself to the idea of going to SDSU for the past couple of weeks. However, just yesterday I received an email from UCR saying that a sister UC campus forwarded my application and that they're offering me admission and a chance to apply for the honors program there.

After searching these threads and reading the Fiske Guide to Colleges (2008) I've painted this picture that in terms of the general education, it's Mac vs. PC if you know what I mean. But the honors program and perhaps smaller class sizes of UCR sound enticing to me. Yet, I'd rather pick SDSU for the location and its proximity to the beach (as an SF native I'll be somewhat depressed not being near the water) and the perceived better social life. Let's not forget I planned on a UC transfer to UCLA or UCSD had I not settled for SDSU only.

So, what's an undecided/engineering freshman to choose if location and social life matter a lot to him, next to a UC transfer?

Hey! I am also planning to enroll as an engineering major and i was also accepted by sdsu and accepted to ucr by the sister school program. After some thorough research, I believe that UCR has better environment for students to succeed. Also you will be getting an UC education that you would pass up if you go to sdsu

I heard that the engineering school in sdsu the professors are uncaring and it is hard to take all classes on time.

Also UCR campus is one of the most diverse in the country so u have a chance to experience social life.

The location is meh but its not terrible.

It sounds like your reason to attend UCR is academic excellence, while your reason for attending SDSU is the parties/beach. Personally, I always would choose the academic excellence road. If you did want to transfer to another UC, you definitely have a shot from UCR, but it diminishes if you choose to attend SDSU. UCR has a new engineering school that is growing every year. CCC is another option if you really did not want to graduate from either school.

In the end, you will probably be happy at either school. It appears you are really knocking the social life at UCR. You can’t believe everything you read on these boards. You gotta go out and see for yourself.

UCR school of engineering is pretty good, Although Riverside is in the desert you are a 1 hour drive from the beach 3 hours from vegas 2 hours from SD an hour from palm spring i think half an hour from big bear lake 20 mins from perris lake. 3 hours from havasu. Plus its a UC
