I don't even know how to start my college essay. The question is "Rutgers University is a vibrant community of people with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. How would you benefit from and contribute to such an environment? "
Is there like some sort of format i can follow? I'm so lost

My kids usually approached with talking about what they would bring to the community in the first part of the essay, and then what would benefit them in the second half. For the first part, think about areas of strength and experiences that you bring to Rutgers. Are you really strong academically in a specific area, are you involved in some kind of EC that you hope to continue there, do you have a personality trait (outgoing and friendly, leadership, etc.) that could add to campus life? Then you could talk about how Rutgers could benefit you – what specific courses/area of study, facilities, activities offered, etc. do you think will help you reach your career and personal goals over the next four years? What makes you excited about Rutgers? Specifics are good – they want to know that you have taken the time to research and learn about Rutgers, and truly have reasons why you want to attend other than cost and location. :)
