Soulja Boy

His new song, 30 thousand 100 million symbolizes our generations struggles in such an eloquent way. Soulja and Lil B (the basedgod) are the voices of our generation.

Discuss the sheer amount of swag that the duo bring not only to the rap game but also to humanity.

omg they're so genius I just can't take it SWAAAAAAAAAAAG OVERLOAD

soulja boy makes my ears bleed.

Lil B is okay though.

No…Soulja Boy is complete garbage. The only rappers today who are really any good are Eminem, Lupe, T.I. (some), and Wiz (some). I guess you could say Cudi, but he’s like his own different genre haha his stuff is really good but really chill so not really rap.

Nothing will ever beat the likes of Tupac, Notorious BIG, NWA, Ice Cube, Easy-E, Dr. Dre, Nelly, etc.

Weezy’s underground tracks are legit, but his mainstream songs are good only for the clubs (like Lil Jon haha).

Soulja Boy is not genius. Where does this post even come from? Literally all he says is bit-ch-es want my dick.
Golfer- I hate when people say that nobody will ever be better than the old school rappers. That’s preposterous. You can’t just say people are better because they were good a while ago and you like the nostalgia of it so you say no matter what they’re the best. That’s stupid. Eminem, Lupe, Kanye, and Jay-Z are all as good if not better than everyone on that list (maybe except for Tupac). They’re definitely better than NWA, Ice Cube, and Easy-E.

^Are you crazy? All rappers today talk about is money, girls, and getting laid. Old-school rappers talk about the hardships they faced as minorities in the ghetto.

Case and point, NWA’s “Straight Outta Compton” talks about that same topic, how much struggle they faced with no money and the cops out to get them. Tupac and Biggie got murdered for a reason, because they were so revolutionary in their compositions.

There’s no way in HELL that Kanye is better than them. Kanye is a mainstream scam (some stuff is decent). I agree that Jay-Z should be added to the list though, my fault.

New-school rappers have good beats, etc. but are in no way better than the founders like Run-DMC, Tupac, Biggie, NWA, Ice Cube, Easy-E, Wu-Tang Clan, etc.

Rap started as a means to get their point across that conveyed their hardships etc, not about poppin bottles at the club and getting laid afterwards in their million-dollar mansion.

The only rappers I can respect today are Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, Nas, and Blu.

Everyone else sold out. Eminem and B.o.B. have a ton of talent each, but if you look at both of their albums from this year, they were obviously dumbed down for radio play. B.o.B.'s mixtapes were and still are some of the best I’ve listened to, yet you get shyt like Magic on his album.

golfer u apparently have only heard a few Kanye songs. For all those concerned about what rappers “talk about”, Kanye has essentially psychoanalyzed himself and is a great artist. You can tell if you actually listen to his albums that he is one of the few truly creative people out there and there are almost no Kanye songs that talk about “girls, money, and getting laid.” For those concerned with how good of a rapper people are, Kanye is the best. He has some mainstream songs which are also very good simply because he’s great to listen to because he’s a great rapper. He really is the whole package (minus his personality) and is definitely one of the great rappers ever. I’ll tell you one great rapper that talks a lot about “girls, money, and getting laid (redundant?)”: Jay-Z.

Couldn’t care less for Soulja Boy’s music. Lupe Fiasco, Common, Kid Cudi, N.E.R.D, and Kanye is where its at.

^ This. I would be psyched for a CRS album.

Soulja boy’s lyrical masterpiece “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” has a music video, of which in it involves some guys on the internet dancing. Well, those guys are (were?) Soulja Boy’s backup dancers, and my former classmates (Carlton, Gabriel, Jakil, and some other guy that didn’t go to my school).

My claim to fame. And it shows you were I grew up, LAWLZ

It’s not about Kanye’s music anymore, it’s about his ego. He’s continually shoving himself into the media and portraying himself as the best in the game, etc. The Taylor Swift incident is just one of the examples. Yeah his music is pretty deep, but Tupac, Biggie, etc would NEVER be fame-hungry like Kanye.

Practice what you preach. Granted, I do like to listen to his music and think that he’s a talented artist. I just don’t believe he’s up there with the legends because he’s all over the place.

The great rappers TODAY are the ones who have stayed “underground”, persay. Jay-Z is the exception because he came from “nothing” with Hard Knock Life and made his way up. His old stuff will always be classics; new stuff, probably not. Eminem is also an exception because all of his songs have some deep meaning (with the exception of a few like Shake That). T.I. is kind of there, his stuff has meaning but he is pretty mainstream. Today, great rappers are the likes of Lupe, Common, and Nas. You don’t hear their music on the radio because they prefer it not to be there; this is true rap, staying underground.

See that’s bullshyt. 1. Honestly nobody really cares what Kanye goes out and says as long as it sounds good on the ipod. 2. W T F are you talking about with all this underground shyt? You’re pulling this out of your ass. Kanye, Jay-Z, Eminem, T.I., Lupe, and Common, Kid Cudi, Tupac, and Biggie are (were) all not underground at all. They’re very popular and that’s great, more people hear their music. Nas isn’t even that good.

IMO Eminem is crazy overrated. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good, but the only thing he does well is rhyming his lines. He has only one flow that he uses in every song, and his albums lately have all been radio-ized. In short, he sold out. I doubt the old Eminem would have done a song like “Love the Way You Lie.” That’s just as much of a sellout as B.o.B. who’s a good rapper when he does his own thing, doing “Airplanes” or “Nothin On You.”

Everyone gets so worked up about people “selling out” and then makes a chance thread to Harvard and says they want to be an ibanker. Settle down. Not every song has to be “****in deep”. You can have a nice groove a lot of people like, put it on the radio, make some money, and still be just as good a rapper as you were before. Don’t hate songs just because they’re on the radio. There’s a reason they’re there, they sound good. Don’t be so elitist and only listen to underground shyt that has some extremely hidden meaning but sounds like crap. Eminem is an outstanding rapper. If you saw his 60 minutes interview, he is a new person, and love the way you lie shows that. People change. And btw, he’s not just a good rhymer, he’s the best ever. Some of the stuff he comes up with is just crazy.

explain to me how these lyrics represent the population?

Y’all are missing the point. I listen to Kanye, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, etc on the radio and on my iPod. I like their music. They’re just NOT the same caliber as the legends, the founders of rap.

The only reason Tupac, Biggie, NWA, etc went mainstream was to get their point across about the hardships they had to endure as black minorities. The underground shyt is what’s keeping old-school rap alive, to an extent. That raw, untouched by the media lyrical composition that rap was founded upon. Today, all we have is autotuned shyt made for the clubs aka T-Pain. Pretty much, if you use autotune, you will NEVER be at the same caliber as the raw talent of the 80s and 90s. Kanye uses autotune, so therefore he will never be as good as them. Yeah his shyt is bangin and whatever but old-school rap will be the best, just ask anyone.

Once again, I like listening to current rap/hip-hop more than old-school rap just because it’s more exciting/energetic. However, old-school rap will ALWAYS be #1, Kanye or no Kanye.

I’m not going to argue who’s the better, new vs. old, etc. I just want to say that B.o.B’s mixtapes go so much harder than his album. Anybody hear “Beast Mode”? It should be on his next mixtape, coming out December 7th. I listen to Chamillionaire, T.I., B.o.B, Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye, Kid Cudi, very little Lil’ Wayne, some Young Jeezy, and Fabolous. Chamillionaire is very underground, and his mixtapes are awesome! I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned him yet. His mainstream releases were not good, as the songs were tailored to what would get massive radioplay. Sure, every rapper will do that so his album will sell well. They got in the business to make money, after all. Might as well earn as much as you can with the club bangers, and then speak your mind on mixtapes or other tracks on an album.

Not everyone uses autotune like T-Pain. Kanye uses it selectively as another tool to create music with and if it were around back then I’m sure it would have also been used by “the founders of rap”. In fact on his new album, the way he uses autotune is magnificent and always tasteful. Kanye was not one of the founders of rap, but he’s changing the game. You go on again about no matter what Kanye or any new rapper does he will never be as good blah blah blah… but you fail to realize that Kanye West and Jay-Z are leading the way into a great new world of music that has already start to come out with Dark Fantasy and when Kanye and Jay-Z’s joint album drops…watch out. Could be top few ever.

Watch the Throne everybody, because Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile.

i hate rap it has no substance
