Sounds ridiculous, but...

....should I retake my Literature SAT?

It's not super low, I just don't really feel it's representative of my ability. So far, my testing record looks like this:

800 CR
790 W
780 M

800 US History
780 Biology M

...

710 Literature

Will it honestly affect me that much or should I just apply with the knowledge that most colleges don't even require 3 subject tests anyways? It feels like it's right on the border of retaking--high enough to be satisfactory but low enough to be a negative factor in an application. Advice?

I'm in a very similar situation (lol, sorry to hijack your thread, maybe we can get an answer together).

My record looks like this:
800 Hebrew
800 Math IIC
740 World History

...

710 Physics

I am NOT applying to colleges such as MIT or CalTech... So should I even bother retaking?

Thanks!

don't bother retaking for either of them. I heard indirectly from my guidance counselor that colleges have called her up when they see people retake a subject test that is already above a 700.

Wow, okay then. It's annoying that I didn't just score lower then...or maybe I should just sit tight. It's not a bad score; believe me, I'm happy that I scored that high on the literature test, no less. I just don't know what colleges will think of it.

However, if they call a counselor for that, then I guess I'll just take it!

Dude, I know what you mean. I'm in the exact same dilemma.

SAT: 2330 770M 760V 800G

SAT II: 800 Math IIC 760 US History

Then I took the SAT II Chem and Physics with virtually no prior experience other than AP Physics (a weak class) and no chemistry whatsoever; I got 710 in Physics and 700 in Chem.

The bad part is that I'll probably be majoring in a science and applying to schools like Caltech and MIT.

Won't this mediocrity stick out? I mean...how important are SAT II's compared to other factors like SAT, Class Rank, GPA, Extracurricular Activities, Awards/Merits, Internships, and Legacy?

This blows. And I know kids with mediocre grades and a horrible resume/class rank/SAT that got in the high 700's for Chem and Physics! Ugh.

I'm thinking about just prepping for and taking the Math Level II exam this fall. I didn't take it earlier because I'm way above that level and really don't remember much of it...but I think it says to colleges "Hey, I'm all right with my other scores, but here's another one for you to consider."

Math Level II has such a generous curve that it's bound to be higher than these low 700 scores. I don't know what to tell you tomdadon (though you already have three excellent scores, so I think you're set), but you may want to consider that Arch3r25.

Just a thought.

I'm in the same situation too

800 Math II
800 Bio M
700 Lit

I'm more of a science person, but the humanities are really important to me too. I think I can do better, so I think I'm going to retake. So I guess retaking SAT IIs isn't like retaking SAT I? They see everything, not the highest score?

ari102792, why would colleges call if you retake a subject test? First time I heard

Okay, thanks Disney.

snm35 it shouldn't matter if you are planning to apply with a science major.

But in the score report won't they see everything? I am planning to apply as a science major to some top schools, so I feel as if this score will really hurt me.

That Lit test was really something. I did well on AP test/SAT critical reading, and I felt as though many questions on the Lit test were open to interpretation :(

colleges don't want to admit professional test-takers. breathe ppl, 700s are like 85th+ percentile, and thats out of smarter people than those that just take SATI. chill....

Thank you obeythecougar. Focus on being a more interesting candidate. 800s are becoming a dime a dozen these days ... go live an interesting life.
