I am thinking about transferring to UPenn next year because of the South Asian studies major and Urdu language study. Upenn is one of only a select few universities that teach Urdu in the United States. How good is the South Asian Studies major at Upenn and the Urdu language program as well? Thanks for your help!

i dont know much about penn's south asia studies deprtment but i've heard its one of the best in the country... all i know is that it is the oldest, and it was the first college in the US to teach Hindi.

yepp - the sast program is top rated. urdu ke baare me.. well im not sure, but i know their hindi aur sanskrit programs are also very acclaimed.
uchicago has a sast department as well but i chose penn over it b/c.. well, b/c i love penn.
anyway - im supposedly a sast major too - says so on my app. lol
in any case, im psyked to take classes like the stuff i read about in the course catalogue (check that out online) and you can see wat degrees/awards the professors hold and the types of things the professors do on their free time on the sast website. (like the one i wrote about, prof sheehan, does humanitarian work for aids patients in south asia on her time off) theyre quite amazing, really.
gluck!
