South Campus Commons and Financial Aid

Hi Terps,

I am a rising junior and I heard that umd do not offer on-campus anymore for juniors so I am looking at the South Campus Commons. I am also receiving the GA grant and the financial aid office says this GA grant will be reduced significantly if I am living off campus. Can I get full GA grant for living in SCC? Is the SCC considered off-campus?

It is a privately owned facility that is physically located on campus, but they have a partnership with the school’s resident life…you need to contact financial aid office to see how they view SCC for the purpose of the GA grant.

Thank you for your reply!

No prob. Hope it works out. While the university does not guarantee housing for juniors, that doesn’t mean it’s not possible. A lot of upper class students voluntarily leave campus housing either for greek housing or off-campus apartments, so there is still a chance. FYI, I was going to suggest applying to be a RA (if you don’t mind the responsibilities that come with it) but it looks like the application deadline has passed. For future reference, this is the page to find the timeline/info http://reslife.umd.edu/employment/ra/steps/
