Online it says that The University of South Carolina Columbia will be releasing admissions decisions the week of December 12 and I still have not heard anything. Has anyone heard back and if so, did you find out online or did they send a letter in the mail?
They said they have released the remaining Early Action (EA) decisions. You will get a big packet with a YES on the back of it in the mail this week if accepted. Good luck! My daughter got hers in the earlier round.
Second review… anyone else in that boat? Any information on what odds of acceptance are with second review?
I called for my son last week when he still had not received his EA notification and the Admissions department said that it was mailed on the 13th of Dec. It is now Jan 2 and STILL NO NEWS! What info did you get with the second review? Was this a small envelope? I think he is going to call his admissions rep. tomorrow. I went online and got a VIP ID for him, but does every applicant get that? Going crazy in Atlanta!!
Second review was a letter that came is a small envelope.
I don’t know if you’re still waiting, but I didn’t receive mine until just before Christmas. I’m OOS in MA, and I think they just take forever to mail. I wouldn’t give up hope yet.
My son got a letter re-mailed but it was sent the 4th. I called today and they said to wait a few more days. Not super helpful or nice so not too hopeful at this point…
Log in to the portal. This log after the mailing the decision is there.
The mystery continues. First they told us when I called at the end of December that a letter was mailed December 12. When my son emailed a week ago, admissions told him that something was re-mailed the 4 of January. Finally tonight my son got a letter for second review dated January 10. This was a school he was really excited about. I’m still hoping it will work out but this whole experience has really been awful. I feel like his application was left on a desk somewhere…this was a kid they were asking to apply to the Honor’s college…Maybe he’ll get some good news in March. Fingers crossed.
@KatieMom3… my son applied to SC in October 2016, just a few days past the EA deadline. he got a second review letter just before Christmas . He received an acceptance the third week of January, and scholarship in late February. Capstone in early March. He tpreturned to SC today looking forward to his second semester. Don’t give up hope. Just check the portal to make sure everything requested is in (we had issues with ACT scores not being matched up to his file due to errors on the part of the ACT.). Good luck.
I have heard of many students who received the second review letter this year who in past years would have probably been admitted in the EA round. Carolina has become an extremely popular school for OOS students and they have become much more selective with the students they admit early. Hang in there everyone
My daughter is on a Group Chat with admitted/hopeful kids and one girl posted that she was accepted as a Capstone Scholar for the class of 2022. My daughter called me very concerned, thinking that she obviously didn’t “get in”. From everything I’ve seen here and on the USC website, Capstone Scholars are notified in March. Anyone hear anything different?
Hmm, my S18 got his YES envelope on 11/3 with a scholarship offer. His SAT was not high enough for Honors College though. He’s gotten a lot of cards from his Admissions rep since then. He’ll need in state tuition in order to attend though since he’s OOS. We’re waiting for final scholarship offers in March.
@g8rmomk8ans I would check with the admissions office. Last year Capstone was a separate mailing that includes an info brochure about the program. Per the website, and consistent with the last few years, notification is made in March. The info sessions for admitted students which is included in the “Yes” packet and online, have a breakout session for Capstone, and one for Honors College. Receiving info about those sessions is not the same as being offered admission into that program. Perhaps that caused confusion?
@g8rmomk8ans My daughter received a letter after she got her admission packet in November saying that because she was a Palmetto Fellow, she would be a Capstone Scholar if she didn’t get into the Honors College (which we won’t know until mid February). I believe the majority of Capstones will be notified in March.
Hey guys, I’m a bit confused about my financial aid. I got my acceptance letter last night in the mail, and it said that they were offering me a financial aid package of $39,000 (over 4 year period) as a minimum.
One of my other friends got her acceptance and financial aid last night as well.
But then one of my OTHER friends claimed that the University of South Carolina doesn’t release their merit-based aid until late March (she has not received any money thus far). I told her that I’d gotten mine last night, but then she said that she meant they gave their scholarship awards (???) in late March…so.
Can someone tell me what is up??
Merit awards will not be released until March. Can you please post what your letter actually says. If you are OOS, then that may be what they are giving you to help with that.
@savethebeess , Same situation as my son and I think they sort of tease you with the $39K figure now, but the final and official scholarship offer comes in March. It will depend on things like how many applicants they have who qualify and look like they will be coming to USC. Could be more $! So I would consider it a pretty good estimate and use that to make any decisions about where you might decide to attend.
@savethebeess my S received a similar note in the acceptance letter. This is not the Financial Aid award its a scholarship minimum that will be received. Final offers and financial aid are then sent in March. Hope this helps.
