Thanks for the feedback on the supplemental fees (and the possibility of additional scholarship money) @hopewhite25 and @atlkaw6! @anxietyforhonors, we heard something similar late last week from a regional recruiter (that it could be this week, but would probably be the following week). Seems like schools are reporting a record number of applications each year, which makes me wonder if something will eventually be done to discourage students from applying to so many schools. My son applied to four (he intended to apply to a few more, but when the reality of all the different essays hit him, he was done with four). He is only currently considering three (he was deferred at one school–one that he decided he wasn’t actually very interested in anyway due to the weather), and that seems like plenty for options for him. I can surely see students wanting to explore more than four possibilities, but I have to wonder what the benefit is of applying to 10-15 schools.
I think there is a way to tell if you are accepted in the honors college. Log in to SSC and go to the page that you can register for the tours. If you can register for the honors tour you’re in.If you are not accepted It says you can’t register for this tour. It didn’t work for us last week but it does today. I have been looking for differences.
Hi SCready,
My dd is logged into her SSC but we can’t fibd the tours page. Can you please tell us how to view it? Thanks
Under the students tab, select enrollment, deposits and fees. Go to USC Columbia. Under event, select schedule tours, then choose the honors tour and see if it lets you sign up.
Have you already paid the deposit? The USC Columbia link just returns to the portal
It had me log in the portal and then it says Congrats! with a page of information with the events.
and no, I haven’t paid the deposit yet.
Tour info is on the application part of the portal. Go to apply.sc/edu/apply/status and login with your email and PW. Do not log into the my.sc.edu portal that requires your VIP ID and
So you were able to register for the Honors College Admitted Students dates? My son clicked on the date and then the calendar popped up but when he clicked on the Honors College Admitted Students tour it said it was only for admitted students to the Honors College so I guess we can assume he didn’t get in.
Yes, I was able to yesterday. I tried a couple days last week and got the you are unable message. They could be doing it in waves. Maybe alphabetically?
Do you mind me asking what letter your last name starts with? I’m grasping at straws I know. My son is an M.
It looks like my daughter isn’t in either. We all knew it was a reach, and it sounds like the competition is fierce than ever. Looks like we have the first tiger in our family!
Wellll…if this truly indicates whether they’re in or not, my D isn’t in, either. It was a longshot for her but we were hoping that with her outstanding essays and what we assume great teacher recs, it would make up for her lower-end stats. I am also grasping at straws, but if it’s true that they’re not going to send them out until next week, maybe they don’t have their “list” completed yet. @gamecock94, so your D will pick Clemson over USC if she doesn’t get into honors?
It allows me to sign up for an honors tour, so I am assuming that is good news!?
“B”
I finally found the link but not working for us.
I found the link and I was able to register! My last name starts with an “M”. I hope this is true and good news, because on the USC page it even says you can’t register if you aren’t accepted
@hopeful37 log in to my.sc.edu and go to Student, and DegreeWorks…if you are admitted to the Honors College it will say Yes under Honors College.
Thank you! I just checked and I got in!!!
Yep. She has lived in Columbia her entire life, so Honors was the only thing keeping her interested in staying in town. I get it. Time to spread her wings.
