South Carolina Honors Program admissions 2023

I spoke with an admissions counselor on Friday. He said they will be mailing them out in the next week or two. Waiting is the hardest part!

Yes. USC wound up being lower cost for him than Maryland, and we are in-state for Maryland. He was rejected for Honors (so theoretically somebody who got in May have stats that would result in more scholarship money from University of South Carolina). Maryland is far from generous with merit aid from what I have seen, both in-state and out-of-state.

While thereā€™s no saying how his experience wouldā€™ve been at Maryland, I canā€™t believe it would have been better than U of SC. But in his case he would have been basically taking his high school friend group with him to college had he gone to Maryland. If your son is out of state for both schools he would likely have the growth experience of a new environment either way. I think some of the greatness in his case was starting fresh in college.

What is your son interested in majoring in?

Has anyone received notification of honors acceptances as a part of the February wave?

@lcnova3 - We are waiting too. I think website says Mid-February and thatā€™s where we are, so should be soon.

Unfortunately, all of the yes packets were mailed Wednesday. Several of my daughterā€™s friends and classmates received them. Very disappointed.

YES packets for Honors College admission? Or just general admission to the college? I am from OOS and havenā€™t heard of any admission decisions from my area, despite many applying.

Have merit offers come out yet?? Just realized DS has not sent in selective service verification

We got a rejection letter today from the Honors College. We live 45 min from USC, so Iā€™m guessing they started sending letters Friday. Best of luck to everyone else. He is re thinking USC.

YES honors college packets were mailed out in bulk last Wednesday and the rejection letters were mailed out right after. We are in the upstate and received our rejection letter Saturday. The admissions department said that they had over 5,000 students apply to the HC and only around 500 are actually accepted and those are about half in-state and half out of state. Very competitive year. I have spoken to some folks who have been in the HC program and there area few really struggling. Itā€™s a lot of work. I have talked to others who were rejected and after the fort semester they were so happy that they werenā€™t accepted after all. IMHO, I want my child to go to college and enjoy it. These are the best years on their lives. They have spent 4 years already busting their butts. Time to live a little and enjoy school with a little less stress. Good luck to all in whatever happens!

Anyone from New Jersey hear about honors acceptance or denial. Nothing here yet in central NJ

@Cocky22 thatā€™s a good point. Thereā€™s no need to rush to it. If your child decides he/she wants to go into the Honors college, they can apply again in their freshman year. The requirements to apply during freshman year is a 3.60 gpa, 1 letter of recommendation from one of your 1st semester professor, and an essay.

Can I ask what the stats were??

Also N.J. and nothing yet. Hopefully Tuesday. Good luck all.

not sure who you are asking about stats, but my childā€™s ACT is 31, GPA weighted 4.8, lots of EC and sports

Talked to an admissions counselor on Friday and she said all the acceptances were getting mailed out by today. @Scarlet1 @Jce528 Iā€™m also from NJ and counselor said weā€™d get them up here probably on Thursday. So anxious! Best of luck

My son found out today via email that he got into both IB Cohort programs he applied to. Does anyone have any perspective on the IB Cohort programs or know anyone who has participated in one? Thanks.

Those are some impressive numbers. Shame he didnā€™t get in. Just shows you how competitive it really is. As time ticks by I am not expecting her to get in. And I will be ok with that.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the info @sjtoast29 . Now we wait.

So, due to this college nonsense we have USPS informed delivery, I can see a regular envelope from USC is being delivered today. Were the YES packages large envelopes? I suspect so :frowning:

Yes they were large. Were you RD or 2nd Review? Same reason we got informed delivery lol
