South Carolina Honors vs Chapel Hill vs Centre vs Wake Forest

Waitlisted at W and L - top school but feeling like a true long shot now

In at Chapel Hill, USC Honors, Centre in KY and Wake - USC, UNC and Centre all all about he same thanks to money at USC and Centre and in-state at UNC. Wake - waiting on financial aid but not so hopeful.

UNC and Wake are stronger than the others. I would pick UNC (or possibly Wake if the FA is there)

I know of two kids in our small town who made it off the W&L wait list in the past five years, and we are not a feeder city for W&L, so if it is truly your top school, let them know & don’t despair.

Centre is not unlike W&L – Centre draws more heavily from KY & surrounding states and is smaller, but the intimate class sizes, strong Greek presence, and small town setting are comparable.

UNC-CH and USC give you big-school sports if that’s a factor. USC Honors makes it closer academically to UNC.

Wake is not known for great FA, although it’s a solid school and a rare midsize with characteristics of both a LAC and a uni. You have good choices; you’ll be an asset to any of these schools!

Chapel Hill, USC and Centre are all close dollar wise - Wake seems like a long shot and W&L who knows at this point.

Wake number are in today lets just say it was not helpful - trying to somehow Wake at 2x Chapel Hill is just not possible

UNC is the clear winner then

D is senior at W&L - a girl she knows from here got off waitlist. But if you are on waitlist then you probably aren’t getting any money and it’s pricey. Probably equal to Wake (at least was 3 years ago). Other D is USC honors and loves it. Great opportunities. If still in mix try to go to one of the admitted days and attend the honors mixer on Friday night and talk to some students. I know lots of them and they are great! Might want to look at what is offered in potential major at your top choices.

Chapel Hill seems the overall best choice. But what about your prospective major?

Do you want a smaller school with a more personalized experience or a larger school?
USC Honors would be my choice - high level academics thanks to the honors college, as well as smaller classes, but on a big D1 campus. But ymmv. There’s no wrong choice here if all three cost about the same.
If you don’t care about class sizes, UNC-CH. If you don’t care so much about sports, Centre.

Irony - Can play sports at Centre (recruited for swimming) but not at USC or UNC

If playing sports is more important than watching sports (and to me it’d be but I know that’s not so common :p) then Centre :)

Made a deposit last night at Chapel Hill - waiting on W and L but we have a winner. Centre was just too far from home and was not excited to even visit

congratulations!

congratulations!

UNC was the right choice.

Centre called us; offered $300 to fly D up there.she went liked the school but not so much the academics. Still wait listed at W and L - bring on Chapel Hill

W&L uses its wait list to admit full pay students. I am afraid it is quite a long shot to get in off the wait list if your D has indicated a need for FA. But UNC-CH is a fabulous school! I would love it if my D were admitted there (if I did not have to pay OOS tuition).

Not true - know a freshmen at W & L off the waitlist last year that was not full pay.

There are always exceptions, but it is a long shot. I was told this directly by an admissions official.

But for your D I hope I am wrong!
