South Carolina International Business

Does anyone know how hard it is to get into the Darla Moore School of Business, specifically for international business? What kind of stats are needed (ACT, SAT, GPA) for an out of state student to get accepted. Thanks!

From their website:

Admission to the University of South Carolina is based on a combination of grades earned and official SAT* or ACT scores. Admission to the university is selective; the middle fifty percent of admitted students score between 1070-1250 on the SAT,* and have a B+ or better high-school average. Higher grades will offset lower entrance examination scores, and vice-versa. Additional factors may be taken into consideration, such as extraordinary personal circumstances, special talents, outstanding extracurricular activities, and evidence of leadership.

Getting accepted for Int’l Business is considerably more difficult. One way to get in (at least in past years) is to be accepted into the Honors College. Check their website for a class profile. The essays involved in the application are very important, as are excellent grades and SAT/ACT.

Another way in to is to apply and be accepted into a Cohort program. These involve much more time studying abroad that the traditional major does. Again, check the website for details.

Finally, you can apply to be accepted into the program as a sophomore through competitive application. Each year’s class size (not including the cohort) is 120 students, so the number of available spots depends on how many students are in the program already. The application is pretty challenging and requires a certain minimum GPA and having taken certain courses (econ, accounting, etc.). I think you have to already be a business major to apply for IB, so make sure you choose some type of business major if you are not directly admitted as a freshman to Int’l Business.

The application for the cohort programs is pretty time intensive. The CIFA cohort application consists of 4 500 word personal essays and a 1000 word research essay.

Hi LC and Mom2,

My son is currently a freshman at USC in the Capstone program. He also completed the application process and was accepted into the CIFA cohort IB program and is on track to spend his junior year studying in Paris. I was wondering if you know anymore about the program. My questions are:

  1. It seems to me as though the cohort programs are relatively new, do you know if this impression is correct?
  2. Have you heard about the outcomes of any CIFA students? Are they generally positive?
  3. Do you have any sense of how many cohorts students are in the IB programs?

Just curious and thought you may have these answers. Thank you for any info.

The CIFA cohort was new as of last yr, so no kids have done the Dauphine program yet. Is your ds part of the groupme? I think there are 10 freshman in the cohort. I know several are part of a group me.

Thanks very much, he probably is in the groupme but I’ll check in with him.
