I've been accepted to both schools and got a full ride to South Carolina and am in the honors college for both schools. I'm planning on getting a major in business and possibly double majoring in computer science and don't know whether to take the full ride or go to the more highly regarded business school. I'm looking to go into investment banking or consulting and I honestly don't know what to do. I loved both campuses and could see myself at both schools.

Considering USC is considered the top Honor’s college and one of the best International Business colleges and you have a full ride. I think USC. I have a friend one with Wall Street and another with a well known business firm in New York and they will tell you International business is the way to go. Their vote would be USC.

Take the McNair. It’s a great opportunity. I know a young woman who’s currently a McNair scholar and is loving it.

If you were my child, I would say take the Mc Nair. It is a fantastic opportunity. USC is known to have a great honors program.

How much will each cost? I assume $0 for USC, but UNC-CH =?
What benefits will the Honors College at each provide?
If you visited, which one did you “like” best (fut feeling, “fit”…)?
I would say like everyone “take the McNair”, but having the details laid out here may help us and you see more clearly.

As far as tuition goes, South Carolina will be free and Unc will be roughly $20,000. From what I have heard from friends at unc, the unc honors college only gets a few special classes and separate dorms. At South Carolina there are separate dorms and a significant amount of separate classes just for honors students.

There are some special programs in UNC’s honors college other than honors classes and a specific dorm. You might want to ask about these on UNC’s board.

You should compare the two honors colleges’ features. Honors at UNC could be really good too - even if USC’s Honors College is considered # in the nation, Honors College at one of the top public universities in the country must have something to say for itself, too.
What are the strong points of each? Any downside at either?

Thanks for the advice and help. I have thought about it and I’m fairly sure I will be going to South Carolina next year!

OP - Congratulations! My son is a current McNair. The South Carolina Honors College is awesome and the McNair Scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for you. You will really enjoy USC and everything that will be offered to you.
