South Carolinians....

Anyone here go to USC or CC? can you give me a little insight as to what campus life is like?

What about Clemson!? I go there haha

haha sorry, forgot about Clemson! do tell!

South Carolina is TERRIBLE!!!

I used to live there, and my family moved immediately after one year because we couldn’t stand it. People are ignorant, racist, and uneducated. Nothing to do, nothing special to see. Too hot in summers, though winters are nice.

^ Just out of curiosity, what part of the state did you live in?

I don’t go to USC, but I have a ton of friends who do. Whether or not you like it really depends on your personality. About half of my friends love it there and can’t imagine going anywhere else. The other half say what Honors Centaur said: it’s close-minded and uneducated, with a lot of rich white students who have a huge sense of entitlement. I’ve never been on-campus though, so I can’t give you any first hand information.

Darlington County, about an hour away from Columbia.
Clemson though, if you can stand the people in the state, is a good school.

I’m from South Carolina. Lived here all my life. =) Going to USC in the fall.

That’s rather offensive. You spend one year here and say that the entire state is ignorant, racist, and uneducated? And have you never been to the mountains? The beaches? Riverbanks Zoo? Charleston? The Battlefields? There’s history at every turning point and I feel lucky to live in such a culturally rich state.

Heh. My dad went to USC for grad school and he loved it. He still has friends from there. One of my (black) friend’s mom and brother went there… and they both loved it and were very disappointed that my friend didn’t apply there. So obviously racism wasn’t that prevalent.

And as for South Carolina in general… My neighborhood is about as diverse as you’ll get if you want to look at people’s races. I have white people across the street. Black neighbors on both sides of me. Mexicans across the street. And there are Asians in my small neighborhood. My neighborhood has everything from apartments to duplexes to large single family homes. So we’ve also got a diverse economic group.

You must have lived in a sucky part of the state.

But alas… I can’t comment on USC, other than I’m really excited to be going there in the fall. =D And my cousin went to CofC and loved it. I also have a friend who goes there now… not totally sure what she thinks of it. She doesn’t even live on campus… so yeah.

Funny considering everything about your post is ignorant and uneducated.

I go to South Carolina. What exactly do you want to know?

I live in South Carolina, as I have all my life. The people are nice, but the state sucks.

i didnt know there were 2 uscs

"South Carolina is TERRIBLE!!!

I used to live there, and my family moved immediately after one year because we couldn’t stand it. People are ignorant, racist, and uneducated. Nothing to do, nothing special to see. Too hot in summers, though winters are nice."

Completely false. My grandfather used to be the dean of the USC law school and the president of the College of Charleston. Both are fairly nice, though C of C is a party school.

I don’t live in SC, but I do go down there a lot. I suppose racism exists insofar as most blacks are poorer, based off my limited observations.

It is too hot in the summers though.

south carolina is awesome. born and raised there but go to school in virginia. what do you want to know about the schools because i have many friends at the state schools.

Damn I just got quoted three times.

But yes, I knew I would receive criticism for my post, but I stand by it. Why did I stay there for only one year? Because we hated it so much. It’s not like I only stayed in one area-I’ve traveled to Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, various colleges and universities, etc. It’s the same everywhere.

I truly don’t give a **** if you’re offended or not, I know for sure that IN GENERAL, the state is uneducated, ignorant, and racist. Obviously, there are exceptions, but this is the norm.

One example of a person going to USC and liking it? Oh yes, of course, clearly, this disproves that the general population is rather lacking.
The racism is primarily against Asians. It’s one of your (black) friend’s who didn’t face much discrimination? Try being one of a handful of Asians among ignorant and lazy people and then proceed to tell me racism isn’t that prevalent.

Yes I definitely did. The majority of the state fits my description.
You may live in an economically well-off area, but not everyone does. Most people don’t.

Really? Everything? Even my comment about weather? Also, I’ve experience South Carolina first hand. Don’t tell me my experiences there make me ignorant and uneducated.

JeromeVergil I see you will be coming to the University of Chicago next year! That’s awesome, see you then!

I’ve experienced South Carolina first hand - for longer than you. I’m telling you you’re being ignorant.

I went to visit USC and Clemson a few months ago, pretty cool. Didn’t apply to USC though. Haha I live in New Hampshire but I can tell you one thing, you don’t wanna get lost in SC. My family and I did when driving back to the airport. We somehow arrived at a road called, I **** you not, Chain Gang Hill Road. Confederate Flags on the “houses”, the trucks, and even the friggin mailboxes. Yeah. Scary stuff. I don’t want to be on the same continent as a state with 'fed flags, let alone as in the same state. I won’t be unfair and generalize, however, but I can safely say that I would never want to live there

Mosquitos will fing tear your a apart. MOst annoying insect ever. Oh, and clouds of gnats flying around in one big clusterf**. Welcome to the south…can’t say much about the schools though.

So glad to see so many open minds here.

how did you end up on chain gang hill road? you were clearly travelling around spartanburg, but chain gang is a few miles off of 85 which is the interstate that the airport is on? I happen to wear confederate flags on my belt but i am not racist, and i am sure i will get flamed for that comment.

Just because people don’t share your opinion about your home state, doesn’t make them close-minded. People say things about every state. I’m from Tennessee, and I’ve heard a thousand people say it’s backwoods, hillbilly, incestuous, etc. Does that mean that those people are close-minded or ignorant? No, just wrong, in my opinion.
