I have heard and read a lot of great things about this school. What I can not find is what is it like to live in such a cold climate and remote part of the world. My son who would consider this school is from Texas. If accepted we will road trip up there during Spring Break which still will be cold but would like to hear from anyone who may have experience in this climate and/or school? Plus traveling and "homesick" suggestions should we choose a school so far from home.

Perhaps a trip in January may help?

I love Rapid City. It is cold in the winter. I would say it is very cold, but I have lived in Texas my whole life. The snow is beautiful. If you are down south, when a storm comes in over the mountains, you can see it blowing in over the hills. I guess you would have to see it. Rapid City is the kind of place I could over look the horrible cold to live the rest of my life in. The campus is nice. There is a neat geology museum. You can ski during the winter, so that might be a bonus. But the university is in the city so you would have to drive out to get to the skiing. Flights cost a fair amount to come and go.
