South Quad Single??? (Housing Advice)

I'm an incoming freshman in the honors program, so I'll be in south quad. I think that I want to pick a single in a co-ed corridor. Are the singles isolated by themselves or mixed in with other singles and are there even singles in the co-ed corridors??? Just in general, do you think that people with singles still have plentiful opportunities to make friends and such? I'm not a nerdy total introvert or anything like that and wouldn't like to be stereotyped as one. I just enjoy my space. Do you think a single is worth it???

The singles are all in a hallway together with an RA room and couple of large doubles/small triples. Half of the singles are indeed in co-ed corridors. You’ll meet people as long as you don’t hide in your room with the door closed.

Having a roommate is a nice experience, but no one will think you’re weird for having a single nor will it affect your social opportunities (as long as you keep your door open).

Thanks for the responses! Yeah, I’m not anti-social, but due to my natural temperament, after I’m around people for a really long time I feel drained and need a little alone time to recharge myself. I feel that I would become quite the opposite of amicable if I was always around a roommate, particularly one who constantly invited friends over. I view the single as more freedom, aka I can have my friends over whenever I want to. Do you guys happen to know what floor the honors singles are on/what house they are in?

You’re more than likely not going to get a single in squad. You can request it but you’ll still get a double.

Hi maizeandblue - Which dorms should I apply to if getting a single room is one of my priorities other than the location factor? Does one need to travel by bus from the Hill dorms to the central campus, where most classes of LSA are? Thanks!

The only freshmen I know that have their own rooms live in Baits which is horrible or a couple that live off campus. If you want to look into apartments they’re probably actually cheaper than the dorms when you buy and cook your own food, but it would be much more difficult to meet people. No matter what you request it is unlikely that you will end up with a single, but really the roommate situation works out for almost everybody. And since you’re in honors you’ll really want to take advantage of the opportunity to live in south quad.

Hi, I was wondering whether South Quad has rooms with private baths (single, double, triple, quad, it doesn’t matter). If so, how hard is it to get them? (I’m a incoming freshmen btw)

The bathrooms in South Quad are in the hall so a private bath would be hard to get.

Wait, so South Quad does have private baths, just few right? or am i wrong?

There are a handful of staff rooms with private baths that may or may not be converted to quads, so the odds are not good.

Edit: There are also lounges that may or may not be converted to quads, so it’s not like requesting a quad is surefire either.
