south schools..

Ok , i'm curious to know , how would you rank these schools:Emory,University of miami, Vanderbilt, Rice, UT austin, UGA, FSU.

Rice

Vanderbilt

Emory

UGA

Miami

FSU

I don't know anything about UT Austin.

Emory/Rice

Vanderbilt
.
.
.

Undergraduate:

1) Rice
2) Emory
3) Vanderbilt
4) UT-Austin
5) FSU/Miami
6) UGA

rice
emory/vanderbilt
ut austin
miami
uga
fsu

For grad FSU > UMiami

Rice/Vanderbilt

Emory

UT-Austin

UMiami

UGA

FSU

I'll take UGA over Miami ANY day.

It should be noticed that I'm very biased in favor of Rice.

Rice

Emory/Vanderbilt

UT

The rest (about which I know relatively little)

Depends for what but in general I'd say:
1) Rice/Emory/Vanderbilt
2) UT/Miami/UGA
3) FSU

It's pretty rough, but I've heard Rice and Emory are lacking socially a bit and Vandy has SEC sports/good social scene.

In terms of faculty strength/academic departments, UT is the strongest. However, at the undergrad level, a couple of the others are likely better (Rice, Emory, Vandy).

I'm applying to vandi and Emory.... which has the best academics(overall not particular major)? and which has more prestige in the USA?

Emory is better

Rice
Vanderbilt
Emory
UGA
Texas
FSU

Vanderbilt's peer assessment score is 4.1 and Emory's is 4.0 so both would viewed as virtually identical among professionals. Both schools are highly selective and have identical SAT score ranges (1300-1470). Although academic reputations are equal, Vanderbilt will have more laymen's prestige because it is in a major sports conference.

I applied and was accepted to both schools so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Be specific. What do you want to study? It makes a huge difference.

^^^^ great post. It's very difficult to accurately rank entire undergraduate programs against each other. People here, including myself, are merely generalizing. A specific field to compare would produce more relevant results.

nymets - Rice, Vandy, and UT-Austin all have the same peer assessment score of 4.1

Hey thank you guys for you comments!!!"Be specific. What do you want to study? It makes a huge difference"I'm trying to apply to universities/colleges that are very good in most majors(just in case i decide to change)..i'm still not sure what i'm going to major in.

Pick five majors that you may like. Rank them in order of preference, then things will be much easier. For example, one school may have a highly ranked undergraduate program - but that does not really help you. The area you want may be weak and another school's very strong or excellent, but with a lower ug ranking.

It can make a world of difference.
