Southeast to North Carolina LAC for Above avg but not superstar Hispanic Senior

We keep going back to our week worn copy of CTCL. After years of talking, thinking, and researching colleges…we feel a bit like we are just starting…again.

In regard to the suggestion of Maryville College by knoxpatch above, I recently attended a seminar on financial aid given by the Maryville College director of admissions and the director of financial aid. I was pleasantly surprised at how generous the financial aid packages were; so it’s something you might wish to explore further.

@DoDEAMom18. Just an FYI. The estimated cost of attendance (using the NPCs) is lowest by quite a bit at Birmingman Southern College compared to the other southern LACs our D is considering. Here’s a link to the BSC merit scholarship grid: <a href=“Types of Aid Available”>http://www.bsc.edu/admission/scholarships.cfm</a>. I was told by the admissions staff at BSC that the GPA on the grid is a weighted GPA.

We are back again…I can’t help feeling that Dear Daughter is at square one after all this time of researching, planning and more researching. After endless conversations it seems that a larger small school to mid size LAC school (3,000-16,000 students) in a college town not in the middle of nowhere that could have marine biology but maybe pre-law but also with an education department would be DD’s best bet. Who’s to say what the actual degree will be in so she does not want to limit herself based on her 17 year thoughts of what maybe sounds / feels like a major at this time. She will qualify for Merit if the requirements are not crazy high GPA 3.75 / SAT CR&M 1170. Hispanic hook but that has not really been a factor in any of the searching so far. Doubtful for Fin Aid. The map is open as to locations now. Everyone here is so,helpful and resourceful…Any new suggestions?

UNC Wilmington would fit the best (size, not in the middle of nowhere - in fact, with the studios nearby, there are lots of “famous” people in town, which is a resort town for most of the year, excellent marine biology, prelaw, education, and there’s a good honors college).
Eckerd would have potential merit (?) but is smaller than she wishes.

Coastal Carolina in SC has right at 10K students, 50% instate, merit aid for your D’s current stats looks like $6K per year here: http://www.coastal.edu/financialaid/scholarships/merit.html</a></p>
