Southeast...

I was visiting IU and I was thinking about requesting a dorm on the southeast, and also Collins. However, the only dorm that I really liked in that neighborhood was Forest, because I am pretty sure, but not one hundred percent sure, that the rest are two dorm rooms that share a living room, bathroom and are pretty isolated? I think that it was the dorms where alot of the music majors were in. I was afraid that if I requested a dorm here that I would get one of these isolated places, and I really do not want that. I want a dorm where the party scene is not extremely crazy, but I also do not want a dorm where nobody socializes. Somewhere inbetween. Sorry for such the long rant, but what should I do?

I have no idea why anyone in their right mind woud ** want ** to live in Forest. It’s quiet, isolated, old and not renovated, and there’s no food nearby.

The other dorm in SE, Read, is much, much better. Two dorm rooms share a bathroom, but not a lounge area. There’re like 4 different restaurants in Read alone, and it’s close to most of the academic campus. Also, from what I’ve noticed everytime I’ve been there to eat, most of the kids there seem really nice and like good people.

But with applying for SE, you run the risk of getting Forest.

If you want the balance you were talking about, think about switching your housing contract to Central. It’s more party heavy and there’re a few more ******bags than in SE, but you’re guaranteed a non-boring dorm and you’re right by the best food court on campus.

Two years ago, I lived in Forest. There were definitely people that partied and a lot that socialized. I lived in a nice single bedroom that was one of the largest single bedrooms in the dorms. Overall, my experience was not bad. I personally despised living in dorms in general as I don’t like sharing bathrooms. I am a very neat person and well… you can make the connection. lol

Forest is nicely situated in between Read for dining and Wright for convenience story shopping. Where does Read go for the convenience store? Wright. LoonLake is exaggerating so badly when he says that there’s no food nearby. How long is the walk between Forest and Read? 2-3 minutes? That’s so far away!

You should realize that Forest people eat at Read so a large chunk of the nice kids you’ve seen are from Forest.

The best food court on campus = terrible food. The food in general was terrible. I am so thankful to be in an apartment as I can actually control the quality of my food.

I personally really like Collins, even though they don’t have air conditioning. The absolute friendliest people you’ll find on campus are in Collins because it’s a very liberal, easy-going, and just cheery atmosphere. I’ve met so many friendly people that are now my close friends and like the dining atmosphere in Collins. It’s debatable if one would consider it to be “isolated”, but I don’t think it is. In my opinion, the dorm that I would recommend for location is Read, but if you’re going for Kelley or SPEA, it would be Foster as Read is far from those schools and the buses that come by have to make the campus loop before they make it to that area.

Ehh I just hardly ever go to that part of campus so it’s more a matter of me not knowing. The Dining Room at Read has really sketch hours (like, they’re closed on the weekends and then open for dinner for 3 hours a night during the week… or something). I suppose the kids in Read and Forest could go to the C-Store at Willkie though instead of the one at Wright; it’s closer, bigger, and they have a small cafe thing.
