Southeast?

applied for housing very early march for northwest and then central. I was placed in Read southeast. Is there anyway to try to move or get shifted to central befor the year starts?

I don’t think so. Most colleges pretty much assign you and you’re stuck that way unless you have an altercation with you roommate. But, to be honest, I don’t really know. I would try calling RPS if it’s really somewhere you’re not interested in living.

RPS will allow people to start applying for room changes the 3rd or so week of school. But I believe until then you must make do with what neighborhood you have. It wouldn’t hurt to call RPS, but they are probably weighed down with many unhappy incoming freshmen right now.

they told me they are not moving people at the moment and that was that. It could possibly mean they are just swamped and will be willing to move later in the summer. If any one did this last year advice would be greatly appreciated!

I heard from an orientation leader that RPS has a new policy this year that they won’t move anyone until Winter break (unless there is a big problem with roommates).

well ill find out at orientation next week. I hope its not true b/c i was banking on getting central or NW i applied march 6th

^^^March 6th wasn’t really that early, if that’s what you are thinking. Lots of kids send their housing stuff in before Thanksgiving. I know my S sent his in in October.

early enough to get central at least. Both my neighbors were march 20th and march 22nd and somehow ended up in mcnutt smh

IU has been over-admitting a lot lately, so their primary concern at the start of the year will be putting students who are living in lounges into rooms as soon as people start dropping out. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a new policy about not moving until December because of the amount of kids they will have to find rooms for. Once they fit all the extra kids in, it will probably take about a month to process. It took about that long for my friends to do so in January of last year, but they were having roommate problems, so I’m not sure if that is different or not.

I applied late February and got the neighborhood of my choice. Early March will probably suffice. Beyond that, however, good luck.

I think one way of increasing your chances to be placed in a specific neighborhood is to request to participate in one of the academic communities that you know will be in that neighborhood. It’s probably too late for this year, but maybe a call to RPS to ask if there are any openings in these communities would be beneficial.

I also was thinking that I would be living in Northwest! I got Southeast in the end. To be specific I am in Read. Which I am really bummed about. Everything I’ve read tells me this is the quietest, furtheast part of campus and while exciting, fun parties will be happening clear across campus I will be stuck at Read.

i was also in read but i took the advise and applied for a community and got in two days later. Just email rps and find an academic, honors, fitness and wellness that you would enjoy being in that also happens to be in NW or central.
