Ok, I have a list of about 12 or so schools. However, I, as well as my counselor, feel like a lot of these are reaches and fits, but kinda risky. I'm looking for mostly Southern schools with high name recognition. If not in the South, then definitely in the north eastern area. I would like them to be business schools too. here is my list so far.

Emory University (not too excited about the two year wait to get into the business school)

Georgetown University

Georgia Institute of Technology

Southern Methodist University (Cox)

University of Florida

University of Notre Dame

University of Texas--Austin

Vanderbilt University (since they don't have business undergraduate, where would I go with this?)

Villanova University

Wake Forest University

Elon (safety?)

Clemson (safety?)

Rollins (safety)

any other safeties?

it would help if you posted your stats to tell what a safety is

GPA= 3.4 weighted (tough private school)

SAT= 1990 or 1370
Math= 800
Reading=570
Writing=620

ACT = 31
Math= 34
Science=28
Reading=32
English=28

UMiami (match/becase of ur gpa)

Tennessee (Safety)

South Carolina (Safety)

Florida State (safety)

Georgia (safety)

btw Rollins and Clemson should both be safeties

ut has an amazing business school (top 7 or so in US News). kids from my high school that get accepted to ivy league schools go 2 ut instead because they can get into the honors business program which takes around 100 kids each class. however i'm biased b/c i live in dallas, but the fact remains that ut has a top notch business school. smu is somewhat underrated for business, they are relatively well known in the south. gt isnt that great of a school outside of engineering (hence the reason why 54% of undergrads major in it), but gtown is obviously great. if u dont live in texas (although from ur username it looks like u do) it will be hard to get into ut, as there is a top 10% rule, where kids in public high schools in top 10% can go to any public u in tx they want; its kinda similar to unc's bias against oos students. good luck.

I actually live in Virginia :(

ur stats arent that bad, its just ut is 95% in state students. ut could be on par with u's like umich, cal, and virginia if only it would admit more oos students, but the governor (bush's deputy gov. and a dumba** aggie) has his head stuck so far up his u kno waht that he believes admitting kids from laredo and brownsville (heavily mexican populated border towns) who are top 10% in their high school class but score like 1300 out of 2400 on the SAT are what ut needs to take that next step into becoming a top 5 public institution. it ticks me off. anyways it wont hurt u to apply to ut, its a great school, nice big campus, and of course kick a** football, basketball, and baseball.

If you live in Virginia, check out James Madison. They have a very solid business program. In-state it would be a safe bet, and a financial safe bet as well if money is any concern.

Some other possibilities to check out: Trinity U (Texas), Tulane, Loyola New Orleans, Loyola of Maryland, Mercer, University of Delaware, Stetson U, U of Tulsa, TCU, U of Alabama, Guilford, Berry, Birmingham Southern. I also really like the business program at the U of South Carolina which has already been mentioned.

Finally, you might also take a look at Oxford College of Emory. Your stats are low for Emory, but would probably make Oxford a safer bet. If you're not familiar with Oxford, it is the liberal arts college of Emory - students spend two years at the Oxford campus completing their GE requirements, then are guaranteed admission to Emory for their major. It can be a good back up plan, especially as you have to wait to get into the business school any how.

Tulane obviously would not be a safety, but the other schools would probably fall in the range of safety or at least safe match.

Could you tell me some more about James Madison? I'm thinking of it as a safety and am interested in an econ or business major. I would be an out of state applicant.

People who are interested in business at Vandy usually major in economics and minor in managerial studies.

You've got a lot of reaches there, I would reccommend taking off one of the ND/Vandy/Emory/Georgetown and adding a few matches instead

Don't be afraid to give Alabama a look. Business is very big here.

VT's Pamplin school is solid.
