Southern Influence at Dartmouth

How is life for southern students at Dartmouth? I'm from the deep, deep, "Plantation Country" south. I realize the weather will require a considerable adjustment (I've never seen snow), but how pervasive are the southern students in Dartmouth's student life as a whole?

Speaking as the parent of a Dartmouth student from the deep, deep south, it is an absolutely wonderful environment (but you do really need warm clothes!). The students really form a great community, and southern students are taken right in.

At parent orientation this year my wife’s Davidson shirt got a response from a lot of Southern parents. My daughter feels at home, although of the 20 or so kids on her floor only one other had ever eaten at Chick-Fil-A.

Dartmouth is a very accepting, diverse community. There are two of us from the Deep South on my freshman floor, and we both fit in perfectly. Don’t worry about your Southern heritage (or accent). Both will be loved here.

If you call Florida deep south, plenty of students from Florida

^^Northern Florida is part of the deep South. Southern Florida is not. It’s part of Cuba.

Haha, no, not Florida. I mean “deep South” as in non-Atlanta Georgia. Thanks for the input, everyone. I guess my accent will stand out a bit, and I’ll lament Chick-Fil-A’s absence, but I’m still excited about a chance to attend Dartmouth.
