Southern Methodist University and Vanderbilt

Hi all! I applied ED to Vanderbilt and EA to SMU this November and am waiting to hear back from both schools this December. While I have spoken with a lot of teachers from my high school and local alumni from each university, I am still interested in hearing what others ideas of my chances might be.

A little bit about myself:
ACT Composite Score: 30
GPA: 3.75
7 APs of which I have completed three. US Government and Politics(4), US History(5), and English Language Arts/Writing(5). Currently I am enrolled in AP Stats, AP French, AP English Lit, and AP Psych as well as a regular Calculus Class.
I am highly involved in extracurriculars, playing on the varsity football, cross country, swimming, baseball, and track teams. On top of this, I am Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook and have over 75 hours of community service.

I hope that this gives a general idea of what the admissions offices at either of these schools will be seeing. Any intake would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

GPA is too low for Vandy, and the score is even lower. Is it unweighted? What’s the weighted GPA?

It’s unweighted

What is your would-be weighted GPA if you give one more points to each AP classes?

Slightly above a 4.0 based on my school’s scale(4.33=A+)

Vandy is a reach, I definitely see you getting into SMU though.

Does your school give extra points for AP classes? Like 5 on A, B on 4, etc.

My school uses a 5.0 scale for APs. (5=A+, 4.66=A, 4.33=A-, etc.) This is then averaged with your unweighted grades to make a weighted GPA
