I am from NY and it appears that the only big schools that will give significant merit aid to me are from the south or midwest. I have a 31 ACT, 95.1 unweighted GPA, 98.6 weighted, a bunch of APs & a good set of extracurriculars. I want to major in biochemistry & do pre-med. I have been looking at UKentucky & NCSU. Also considering VCU, GMU, & UCincy. Open to any other suggestions.
Check out Rhodes College in Memphis. Dangerous city, but safe & beautiful campus. Has a relationship with St.Jude’s Hospital.
I believe that you would be eligible for significant merit money from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina–a great city for culture, beaches, restaurants, Southern charm, fun & socializing. Plus the cultural awareness boost for one from southern New York state should enhance the experience. The key is to get into the Honors College with a generous merit scholarship. Then study hard & enjoy life !
You might look at U of South Carolina. Cost after merit would likely be about $26,000 although not automatic. Consider applying to the highly ranked Honors College; it’s competitive, but you’d have a shot.
How much can you pay each year? Hofstra, Iona , St Lawrence, Ursinus, Susquehanna, Temple U all give merit. Any SUNY possibilities?
@cptofthehouse Yes, I’m applying to Binghamton & Buffalo. Most likely will apply to Iona because my dad really wants me too.
I think I cross posted on another thread of yours.
UNebraska would give you good merit and they have reasonable OOS tuition and room/board to begin with. Also we found U of Iowa (medical center of entire state) to have generous merit and additional “scholarship” (FA) to give D18 a good deal (better than our instate UIUC). Miami Ohio also will let you estimate your merit based on statistics (they gave us a better offer than listed). Those are the midwestern flagships I know about. Nebraska was the only one that brought costs significantly below FAFSA EFC. Good luck!
