Southwest flights at Christmas

<p>Well, I have to admit I had my fingers crossed when DS flew to Birmingham with a couple of suitcases on Friday, but all has gone swimmingly so far. He shared the Birmingham Door to Door shuttle with a young lady from Sacramento and had no trouble accessing his room when he arrived. He called to say all his suite mates have arrived and most of them are doing Alabama Action or Outdoor Action just like him. </p>

<p>So now I’m looking at flights to bring him home at Christmas. The airport shuttles from UA seem to be running Dec 11, 12 and 13 outward and returning Jan 4,5 and 6. Fares for these dates are very reasonable at the moment so I’d like to book but I’m not sure what dates he’ll be taking final exams and be able to leave. Will the professors have a schedule/syllabus showing the final exam dates available when classes begin? Do parents usually book the flights and then change dates as required? </p>

<p>Any advice appreciated.</p>

<p>You can find the final exam schedule here. If your son happens to be in CBH, plan on him flying out Saturday.</p>

<p>If you have points with Southwest, you can book several one way tickets and just cancel what you don’t need.</p>

<p>As far as the return, earlier is better. Last year the weather was brutal. Many students were delayed for days. Better to sacrifice a couple of days at home than to stress out over maybe missing classes. </p>

<p>My daughter is in CBHP. Do they have a final for that or do they need to stay till Saturday for their final project?</p>

<p>My son does participate in CBH, so others parents will have better answers, but from what I remember of my sons’s RM, two years ago most if not all stayed until midnight Friday and last year only some did. Maybe wait until if starts this year to be sure. Just did not want anyone to look at the final schedule and book flights based on lack of exam if their student was in CBH.</p>
